a word from our leaders

Staff News

After a number of false starts due to COVID-19 restrictions, Tanya Siebert (German) is now gearing for a two year relocation to Germany where she will work for the University of Potsdam (Universitaet Potsdam) lecturing final year teaching students and also conducting research into the use of Thinking Routines in language classrooms.

During Term 4 Tanya will likely still be in Australia lecturing online, conducting her own literature reviews, assessing year 12 students at the SACE board, completing some consultancy work, and engaging in professional learning. We may even see Frau Siebert back at Good Shepherd for a day or two in Term 4.

My sincere thanks to Tanya, a leader among our team and a highly accomplished educator.  We will miss you over the coming two years, but know in the busyness of life, two years will pass very quickly.  Every blessing for your new adventure.

We welcome Katherine Anderson to our team. Currently teaching at Athelstone Primary, Katherine's energy and 'can do' persona is a stand-out feature of her service to students and colleagues.  Katherine will spend some time transitioning into the role this term in preparation for commencing with us in Term 4.

Sports Day

Our rescheduled Sports Day takes place early next term on Friday 30 October.  As has been communicated, due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, we sadly are unable to host parents and visitors on the day.

However, we can and will, present a day of spirited fun and competition for our students to enjoy. Please note the following elements as you plan for the day.

Clothing

We ask that all children come to school in their Sport Uniform with the exception of the polo shirt.  We encourage children to wear a t-shirt in the colour of the team they represent.

(School parent, Kris from 'T Shirts are Us' can assist you if you are looking to stay clear of the shops).

We also encourage children to accessorise using ‘creative colour’ to further identify the team to which they belong. To make this a little easier in 2020, we have registered with 'Ponytails and Fairytales' who stock a selection of fun Sports Day accessories in team colours.

We recommend items like socks, laces and sweat bands.  We favour less, items like sunglasses or pom poms that are easily misplaced or that end up in land fill.

20% of the value of orders placed for Good Shepherd comes back to the school.  Orders can be placed online with orders strictly closing on Sunday 18th October.  All Sports Day orders will be sent to the school for distribution through your child’s class in the week of Sports Day. Please use code GSLS DELIVER TO SCHOOL at checkout for free delivery to the school. You can shop online by clicking on the button below.

For any enquiries, please see Dani Levy in the uniform shop, or contact her via email.

Early Dismissal

At the conclusion of the events (approximately 12.30pm), a presentation will be made to the winning team.  Our usual end of day procedures will follow.  There will be no formal lessons in the afternoon.

OSHC

After school care is available from 12.45pm  for parents who are unable to collect their child from school.

School Events update - Term 4

As we strive to maintain COVIDSafe practice across all school events, our recent focus has been around re-imagining the Term 4 calendar inclusions that have traditionally been public events - that is, they involve parents / carers in some way.

The attached publication provides an outline of the creative ways in which we are planning to manage the numerous public events that round out the 2020 school year.

Please take time to browse our event guide, to identify your areas of involvement and interest.

We trust our 'Can Do' approach shines through the planning for these important events.

Thank you for your encouragement and cooperation.
