what do we know about Jo?

I think that Joseph might have been a little hard to get along with at 17.

His brothers certainly thought so. Opinionated, entitled, dad’s favourite… They were over Joseph telling them how important he was. He didn’t do himself any favours with how he carried on. And he seemed to just get away with it! It didn’t seem fair…

But what happened over the course of the next 20 years seems incredulous.

Betrayed by those closest to him, his own family. Sold into slavery in a foreign country. Bought. He made the best of things only to be falsely accused of something he didn’t do and land in prison. Forgotten about. He kept his integrity after he was dealt blow after blow. It didn’t seem fair…

Brought before the king (Pharaoh) to explain the meaning of his dreams. Elevated in status to second highest in the land, becoming responsible for the saving of thousands of lives.

And then he came face to face with the very ones who rejected him all those years ago.

20 years is ample time to plot revenge…

And yet Joseph knew through it all that God was with him and was looking after him. He was never alone in facing his many challenges.

Joseph’s life was being transformed. God was equipping him, strengthening him, shaping him and reminding him of His faithfulness through the bleakest of circumstances. Joseph came to rely on God for everything.

Joseph is remembered for being a wise leader who listened to God and a forgiving brother who showed mercy to those who had betrayed him.

Joseph knew God as his firm and trustworthy foundation. It anchored him. With this security he was able to accomplish mighty deeds and still show compassion. God offers himself to be our secure foundation as well. With this in mind, how might this influence your day today?
