Grade 2/3

We have made it to half way through the term! Everyone continues to show persistence during Remote Learning and should be congratulated on their efforts. We have seen some fantastic work being submitted. It is great to see so many students in Teams calls each day. We have enjoyed having a focus on a specific curriculum areas and having some fun on a Friday!

Well done on our first attempt at completing assessments during Remote Learning. It was great to see the effort that went into completing the task. Students demonstrated a good understanding of the concept of shape.

More information regarding our Remote Learning assessment period will be sent out to families.

Literacy

This week we started looking at procedural writing. The students focused on how to structure a procedure and the importance of adding details to their steps after watching the funny video above. For this weeks tasks students wrote a procedure on how to make something of their choice. It was great to see so many different procedures being submitted!

Incredible India!

The next stop on our Inquiry journey this week was India. Students compared and contrasted the way of life between India and Australia in regards to: school, transportation, food, native animals and going shopping. They learnt about Indian art and designed henna hands and colourful mandalas. Students learned about the history of the 2000 year old Ancient Indian game Moksha Patamu (what we now know as Snakes & Ladders) and created their own board game to play at home. We ended the week learning about Indian food and students made the sweet treat Coconut Ladoo, a popular dessert at Indian festivals and social gatherings.

Check out some of our amazing mandalas below!

Next week...

We take a trip to México! Each day will focus on a different aspect of México. We will be learning about facts, famous landmarks, cultural celebrations and food.

Monday   - Facts about México, flag and location.

Tuesday   – Draw on paper a Mayan Pyramid.

Thursday – Design your own piñata.

Friday      – Let´s make Guacamole!

We have incorporated a cooking aspect into Fridays lesson and would love to see the students off their screen and having a go at making guacamole with the family. This activity will require some basic ingredients. You can find the recipe provided for the lesson here, however, any recipe is fine!

We have included an alternative activity if this is not possible.

We hope you are looking forward to our visit to México!

Adios!

Spanish

During the Spanish afternoon check ins (between 1pm and 2pm) the students will require (if possible) a bunch of post it notes or cut up paper with sticky tape/blue tack. Hope you are ready to have Spanish words around your house!

Jose is having a professional learning day on Thursday 27th, and therefore it will not be morning check in for the 23B class and no afternoon check in for the 23C class. An alternative lessons will be provided for 23C for Thursday.
