ACTING PRINCIPAL'S REPORT - MR GRIMMER

RETURN TO SCHOOL PLAN FOR TERM 4

We were extremely excited to hear the news from the Premier last Sunday regarding the return to school plan. However, there has been some mixed messages in the media regarding the specific arrangements for Regional Victoria, so I have included a summary below of the return to school plan for Merbein P-10 College.

5-9th OCTOBER (FIRST WEEK OF TERM 4)

Remote and flexible learning will continue in the same format as we had in place during the majority of Term 3.All students who were learning from home will continue to do so for the first week of Term 4. Onsite supervision will continue to be provided for those students who cannot safely learn from home and have completed an attendance application form for the first week of Term 4.

MONDAY 12th OCTOBER

All students at Merbein P-10 College will return to onsite learning!!

At this stage the following procedures will be in place for this return. These procedures may change as we continue further on the road map to recovery, so please continue to check Compass for updates.

School arrival and departure

  • Arrival times will not change from normal school operation, as students arrive normally in a staggered fashion. However, to reduce the number of parents and students congregating at the one time we will be staggering the dismissal times slightly more than normal.
  • All Prep – 6 students will be dismissed at the earlier time of 3:00pm. Primary students that have older siblings in the secondary section will be able to stay in their Learning Centres until 3.17pm. All secondary students will be dismissed at the normal time of 3:17pm.
  •  When picking up or dropping off your child, please do not enter the school grounds.
  • Parents must observe physical distancing by not congregating around school entry points.
  • Encourage non-contact greetings.

** The Department of Education will be providing an update as to the requirements for face masks, temperature checking, group gatherings etc in the coming week. I will continue to provide families with updated information relating to the return to school plan as soon as I receive this information from DET.

CSEF

In acknowledgement of the significant and ongoing challenges facing our parent community, the Minister for Education has approved that the eligibility to quality for CSEF be extended to 5 October 2020, with applications due by 27 November 2020.

CSEF payments for these students will be made at 50 per cent of the standard primary and secondary rates, recognising that opportunities for camps, sports and excursions have been limited in 2020.

CSEF forms are available from the College Office.
