Global Village week / Harmony Day
When you think of Orchard Grove Primary school, you think of the people, young and old. A diverse, vibrant and supportive community of students are a real reflection of their families. Global Village week has seen the students enjoy food, stories, dancing and art from around the globe. However, beyond the enjoyment factor, the planning and thought behind all these activities is critical. If we truly want our students to value diversity, to understand differences and be interested to find out more, to develop empathy and respect for those around them, then weeks where we focus on cultural traditions and focus on Harmony are vital.
On Monday the Year 3s and 4s enjoyed everything Greek, on Tuesday the Year 2s journeyed to the Pacific, Wednesday saw a farm arrive and the Year 1s enjoyed Russian traditions. On Thursday the Foundation students enjoyed Indian traditions and we all gathered for our Harmony Day celebration. Thank you to all the students for dressing in their traditional colours and costumes for Harmony day. On Friday, the week concluded with our Year 5 and 6 students exploring the traditions of our Asian neighbours.
Throughout the week, the activities were so beautifully supported by parents. A special thanks to Sally Payne and Jess Bentley for their incredible contribution in creating the photo collage COMMUNITY sign for our Harmony Day gathering that will now hang proudly in the PAC. Our heartfelt thanks to Mun and Ivy Chin and to all those parents who contributed to the Asian feast enjoyed by the Year 5 and 6 students on Friday. We are well and truly all better people from knowing each other. Thanks to all the students for their enthusiasm and their interest. They demonstrated that they certainly are global citizens.
