2022 - Term 2 Review

Term two saw all of our younger teams compete in inter-school sports competitions, with our year 7 boys, year 8 boys, and year 8 girls successfully navigating their way through to the Western Metropolitan finals.
These finals took place in the final week of the term, with our year 7 boys finishing third overall, our year 8 girls finishing fourth overall, and our year 8 boys finishing runners up after losing in the final to Maribyrnong Sports Academy.
Our year 9/10 combined squads missed out on qualification by the narrowest of margins, with our girls missing out on progressing purely on goal difference, whilst our boys lost in a penalty shootout in a tight final after winning their group and semi-final comfortably.
Our Bill Turner Cup (boys) and Bill Turner Trophy (girls) campaigns ended in the second round, which meant that our 2007-born students could not match the results of previous generations. As we all know, junior results are a poor indicator of learning and progress, and we look forward to the development of these young boys and girls into mature and competent future senior players.
On an individual level, we saw our first KDC student selected for Western United's NPL academy side, with year 10 student Nicolas Koek earning a place in the under 21's NPL 3 squad.
Nicolas joins year 11 student Dion Muhtari (Melbourne Victory), and our Melbourne City trio of Jordan Vonja, Jackson Knezevic, and Michael Vonja as our sixth A-League Academy player, and we hope for more to come from our most dedicated players in the near future.
In NPL Women's, Year 11 student Hiba Karim is having a stellar season at leading NPLW club Calder United, as is 2021 graduate Navleen Kaur, who is part of the Western United Development Squad. Recently, Lena Blaszkowska, Gurleen Sandhu, and Stephanie Vonja have become permanent train-on players at the club with the aim being for them to earn a place in the 2023 squads for their respective age groups.
We also saw continued success for our girls and boys reaching senior football, with Robbie Farquharson, Octavio Montalvo, Mo Miri, Steven Huynh, Olivia Montalvo, Sophie Kogioumtzis, Steph Vonja, Amela Kadic, and Bethannie Lazic all playing senior football in term 2 for their respective clubs.
Every member of our program has a non-linear development timeline and with effort, concentration and discipline, we expect to see more young prospects making the grade at a higher level.
