Year 12 Retreat

YEAR 12 RETREAT

Our Year 12 students recently participated in a two day-overnight retreat. Part 1 was a pathways focus and onsite at school involving guest presenters from Deakin University, ACU (Australian Catholic University, Victoria University, Federation University as well as representatives from the Gordon and other TAFE providers. The focus of these workshops was university life and the world of work and life after secondary school.

Part 2 transitioned into a focus on wellbeing and how to have a healthy mind in Year 12 – ‘turning anxiety into confidence’. The Year 12s participated in a workshop with Dr Tom Nehmy, a clinical psychologist and the founder of Healthy Minds. His workshop focused on concepts like building self-compassion, understanding anxiety, challenging unhealthy perfectionism and applying healthy thinking.

We then headed to Anglesea Valley Lodge where the focus on wellbeing continued and the students participated in a number of activities, had an opportunity to apply some of Dr Nehmy’s principles and enjoy some quality time together.
