Principal's Report

Dear Families,

Rainy conditions certainly suited our Footy Colours Day on Tuesday. Students across the school enjoyed participating in the AFL Clinic. Thank you to Miss Maskell for her organisation. Money raised from the day will go towards purchasing some new footballs for the sports trolley. They are in high demand at the moment. Footy fever seems to be sweeping the school.

LONG WEEKEND

Friday the 10th is a Professional Practice Day and students are not required at school. Monday the 13th is a public holiday so students will have an extra-long weekend.

BREAKFAST CLUB

Breakfast Club proved to be popular again this week. Many thanks to Ash Clowes and Shae Stewart for their help. It was certainly appreciated.

SOMERS CAMP

Every two years our students in Grades 5 & 6 are given the opportunity to attend Somers Camp which spans over 9 days. Expressions of interest must be back by tomorrow. Notices were sent home earlier this week.

SCHOOL CONCERT

This year we plan to make the school concert more of a local family event. It will be held on the stage at the back of the Toolamba Hotel (Junction Hotel) on Thursday 20th October.

PROFESSIONAL LEARNING

Last night I completed a course titled “The Inclusive Classroom -Supporting Students with Learning Difficulties including Dyslexia.” I found the course to be extremely valuable as it deepened my understanding of the adjustments that can be made for diverse learners. It was also reaffirming to hear their support of the Little Learners Love Literacy approach to the teaching or reading and writing.

This facilitator-led blended learning course was co-designed by the Department of Education and Training and La Trobe University to develop understanding and capabilities in:

  • the Big Six key components required to teach all students to be literate
  • the simple view of reading model and how to apply this to students with reading    challenges
  • the information processing model and explicit teaching
  • evidence-based practices to support all students to become competent readers.

CHILD SAFETY AND WELLBEING AT TOOLAMBA PRIMARY SCHOOL INFORMATION FOR FAMILIES AND THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY

The Victorian Government has announced new Child Safe Standards to further strengthen child safety across organisations, including schools. The new standards recognise the critical importance of families and the broader school community in maintaining and promoting child safety and wellbeing.

Toolamba Primary School is currently in the process of reviewing  and updating our child safety policies and procedures to ensure they meet the requirements of the new standards. The draft copies will be available on our website next week to view.  www.toolambaps.vic.edu.au

We are committed to continuous improvement in our approach to child safety and wellbeing and welcome feedback from families and members of our school community on ways we can further strengthen our child safety policies, procedures, and practices. If you have any suggestions, comments or questions, please contact Heather Kennedy.

Have a lovely long weekend,

Regards Heather
