Principal's Report

 - Tania Sorbello

Congratulations to all of our students, staff and the community on what has been another amazing, albeit incredibly busy, term. We are so proud of the way the community has rallied together as we prepare for the commencement of our build over the school holidays.

Thank you to each and every person who has assisted with preparing for our build, including our amazing team of volunteers who have worked tirelessly during our working bees, afterschool moving afternoons. A really special thank you to Duncan Forster, our School Council President for seemingly making FNPS his full time job over the past two weeks as final preparations have taken place.

FNPS Building Project

It's finally here! The build is scheduled to begin tomorrow, 25 June so, upon your return from the school holidays, FNPS will be a hive of building activity.

Earlier this week I circulated a timeline and a high-level plan that has been produced by the committee working on the build, which includes staff, parents and members of the school council. This information, along with a map indicating the changes to the learning areas during the building works are attached for your reference.

Mid  next week I will share with you all some of the key questions regarding the building project that arose out of our recent Community Pulse survey, along with questions I have received directly from parents. In addition, we will host an open information evening in the first few weeks of next term, for all families to be able to attend and ask any questions they may have about the building process.

Asbestos Removal Next Week

From next Monday 27th until Wednesday 29th June, the project will commence with the removal of asbestos in the Senior Building. This means that the school will need to be completely vacant during these three days, including the holiday program offered through TheirCare.

As a result, TheirCare are offering all FNPS students attendance at the holiday program being held at Coburg North Primary School. TheirCare have sent correspondence to families to provide further details about the service being provided. Any families who have already booked their children in to attend on these three days are encouraged to contact TheirCare directly regarding their booking.

We thank our community for their continued patience and understanding as we move closer to the commencement of the build. Whilst the building process brings with it unique challenges to contend with over the next six months, we are so excited to have our build complete and to be able to share our new teaching and learning spaces with our community in 2023.

Semester 1 Reports

Semester 1 Student Reports have now been published and are available to view through Compass. These reports will provide you with an insight into your child’s current capabilities and future learning goals, along with indicating your child’s current progress against the Victorian Curriculum.

Should you have any problems accessing your child's Semester 1 Report, please contact the office on 9481 5860.

Staffing Movements Term 3

We have a small number of staff taking leave at the beginning of and during Term 3 resulting in some temporary changes around the school. These changes are as follows:

2TP – Tony Rodwell will be taking Long Service Leave throughout all of Term 3. Pauline McGrath will be taking 2TP on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Alex Ortuso will take the class each Wednesday.

5SV – Stacey Valentinis will be taking Long Service Leave for Weeks 1 – 3 of next term. Her class will be covered by a Casual Relief Teacher during this time.

6BA – Brad Arthur will be taking Long Service Leave for Weeks 1 and 2 of next term. His class will be covered by a Casual Relief Teacher during this time.

PE – Ben Williams will be 5SV taking Long Service Leave for Weeks 1 and 2 of next term. His classes will be covered by a Casual Relief Teacher during this time.

Year 5 Elections

“On Thursday the year fives hosted the FNPS Mock Election as part of our Term 2 Inquiry. There were 11 fictional candidates all together. All the grades from 2 to 6 voted, but only the year 4s came in and got the full experience in person. Alice Walker won the election and got a total of 125 votes. When Refi was counting the last couple of votes between Becca Flang and Alice Walker all the year fives started to sing It’s the final countdown. When we found out who the winner was, Tom started to play the song we are the champions off his laptop. The winning team got all of the votes and threw them in the air so we could catch them.“

Year 2 Visual Arts: Impressionism

In Visual Arts this term, our Year 2 students have explored Impressionist artists including Vincent Van Gough. The culmination of this learning included students creating their own impressionist inspired “Starry Starry Night” pieces. I’m sure you will agree that these pieces by Jackson, Willow and Rose of 2ML, along with Ronnie and Nonny of 2TJ demonstrate our students’ wonderful creative abilities.

“We started by drawing our backgrounds and then we learnt how to paint over it using short strokes and long strokes.” Hannah and Zander 2TJ

A Final Farewell

Whilst we knew the time was coming to say farewell to our beloved spotted gum tree to make way for the build, rest assured that the beautiful timber will be milled and reimagined somewhere in our school. Watch this space.

Finally, thank you so much to all of the families who provided morning tea for our staff this morning. We are so grateful that you took the time to recognise our wonderful staff with your kindness and generosity.

Go gently,

Tania
