Junior School

We’ve had an action packed couple of weeks here in the Junior School. The Year 3-6 students participated in a Speech Meet, the Year 6 class went on their Phillip Island camp and we had a fun time during our Chinese focused PALS afternoon (pictured below). Not to mention all the other wonderful learning experiences that the students have enjoyed in their classes.

Meanwhile, some of our Year 4 students have also been very busy preparing for their performance of the musical Annie Jr this weekend. I will enjoy watching it at the Lighthouse Theatre on Friday night! We love to celebrate extracurricular achievements, so I’ve included a few photos of them at their full-dress rehearsal. Well done Lylah, Eliza and Grace, on your involvement in Primary Performers!

It has been a wonderful semester. I pray you all have a very happy and safe holiday with your families. We look forward to seeing the students refreshed ready for a great Semester 2.

Junior School Speech Meet

The Junior School Speech Meet was held on Thursday 16th June in the Auditorium. 22 students participated across Years 3-6. Students competed for House Points and the chance to represent the school at the Lion’s Club Interschool Speech Competition. Congratulations to Calvin who scored the most House Points on the day - having the most participants certainly helped! A special thank you to the Lion’s Club for judging the event and providing the speech topics and awards. Well done students for your hard work and outstanding speeches. We wish Albie, Amelie, Henry, and Sienna all the very best for the interschool competition.

Year 1

After a busy term, the Year 1 students enjoyed the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities on offer on our PALS afternoon. With a Chinese focus, the children tried their skills at origami, calligraphy and the use of chopsticks. Within the classroom, the children enjoyed exploring patterns that can be found in numbers as they expanded their skills when skip counting by 2’s, 5’s and 10’s.

Year 2

In Year 2, we read ‘Jesus is the Captain of the Storm’ in our Bibles, and learned that even the wind and waves obey Jesus. Our STEAM challenge was to build a boat that would float, using a box, tape, clingwrap, skewers, thick paper and glue. As each person planned and crafted a unique boat, an amazing flotilla of boats in different sizes, shapes and styles was created. When tested on still water and waves, all but two boats remained afloat.

Year 4

Students have been working hard to adjust to the routines of Year 4. In amongst this, we had a number of students take part in a public speaking contest organised by Mrs Isles. There were five different students who decided to take on the challenge. Congratulations to everyone who spoke, you did an amazing job.  We have also been enjoying the ABC TV series My Place which sparks discussions around, politics, history, families and out first peoples. With reports coming up, there has been an enormous amount of testing to be done and we all appreciate your encouragement and support.

Year 5

Mrs Robinson helped the Year 5 class transplant our classroom flowers into a garden near the playground. The plants had begun harbouring lots of little insects so it was time for them to go outside. We'll have another go with succulents next term. We have also been practicing a song and learning a dance for our assembly item next term. It's been a lot of fun seeing the students rise to the challenge and taking on a performance with enthusiasm. Stay tuned for Assembly in week 3 of next term!
