Principal's Message
Our children are the future...
Welcome to the start of Week 6. This marks the halfway point of Term 1. It is with great pleasure that I announce the arrival of Lincoln Paul Creasey into the world. Lincoln is the newly-minted son of our wonderful music teacher Paul Creasey. Lincoln arrived in the world on 25 February 2021 at 6:05am. The entire school community passes on its love and best wishes to mum, Sarah, dad, Paul and sister, Milla with the arrival of their little bundle of happiness. Well done, Creaseys!
I really encourage you to read our iNewsletter pages - they are really terrific. It contains lots that you need to know about your child's classes and education. It also contains lots of celebrations. Please do yourself a favour and sit down on a chair with a cup of tea to read the contents.
The support we receive from our families warms our hearts daily. Last week, we were able to have our first group of parents on-site to help set up resources for our learning programs. How lovely it was to hear the chatter of adults supporting our school and the children.
Last week we also conducted our Family Information Nights (with our Prep session coming up this week). The interest from those who attended was really strong. Our goal was to make our programs and approaches transparent to all. We hope we achieved that.
I want to encourage all parents to use Compass to make personal contact with their child's classroom teacher via email. This relationship is critical and needs your help to flourish. This does not mean sending an email every day as the teachers would be snowed under with responding instead of teaching. But it does mean emailing when you have a quick question or a concern to be raised. Communication is key and we rely on everybody to do their part.
We have over 80% of our parents/carers signed up this coming week to online chats with classroom teachers. This is fantastic! I have included below the codes that you will need to use to access those discussions via Webex. These were also included in a newsfeed I sent out earlier. There are two ways to access these discussions. One, to use the link directly and two, to copy and paste the meeting number into Webex. Please note, the password is lowercase.
It is important that you arrive to the online chat on time so that everyone gets their fair share. If you have any difficulties during login please use your classroom teachers email which is accessible via Compass. Good luck with these chats and we hope a very healthy relationship is built upon them.
For those booked into see Mr Paul, note that he is now on family leave and will not be able to attend. We will ensure Mr Paul knows of your booking so he can catch up when he returns.
See meeting codes at bottom of this page or via my Compass Newsfeed.
We are excited to inform you that during the week of March 8th–March 12th, South Melbourne Primary School will be celebrating ‘Harmony Week’.
‘Harmony Week’ is a time to celebrate the rich and vibrant cultures which make our school such a special place. The message of ‘Harmony Week’ is that everyone belongs. It is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all members of our South Melbourne community and the wider society as a whole.
During the week, the students will be participating in a variety of exciting activities within their classes which will focus on a range of different cultures. The week culminates with a special ‘Harmony Day’ on Friday 12th March – for this day we are encouraging the students to come dressed in traditional clothing relevant to their cultural backgrounds, or to wear orange as a symbol of harmony and togetherness.
We look forward to celebrating our cultural diversity during the week and especially seeing everyone dressed accordingly on Friday 12th March.
