Principal's Report
Acquaintance Morning
You will have received notification of our Acquaintance Morning on Wednesday March 10th. Class teachers will advise parents and carers of the time for visiting classrooms.
This will be an opportunity for families to see classes in action and for students to share their learning. You will have the opportunity to meet class teachers. More formal Parent –teacher interviews will be happening in week 1 and 2 in term 2.This will be the opportunity for more detailed conversations about your child/ren’s learning progress.
We ask parents /carers to use QR codes to sign in on entry into classrooms or sign in at the front office prior to going to the class and to only stay for the designated time.
Communication
With limited opportunities for families to come into classrooms and catch up with teachers it is increasingly important to maintain open lines of communication. All classes use Seesaw app for communication with families. This is an excellent way for families to have regular two way communication with class teachers and to see what students are learning.
If you have not signed up for your class Seesaw connection – please do so ASAP.
Reception - Year 5 swimming
We are pleased to be able to offer swimming lessons once again this year. This is an important part of the curriculum and we encourage all students to participate.
Please return permission forms for swimming lessons ASAP.
School Improvement Priorities
Our main improvement foci this year are:
· Reading Comprehension
· Maths – Place value and number sense
· Learning Through Inquiry
2020 student assessments indicated significant improvements in outcomes for our students in reading comprehension and place value as a result of our whole school improvement focus. We look forward to another successful year of learning in these focus areas for our students.
Learning Goals
Students and teachers have been using recent assessment results to set individual learning goals in reading, writing, maths and spelling. Have a chat with your child/ren about their learning goals and how they plan to achieve them. We know students will be most successful in their learning when families and teachers work together to support them.
Sustainability
This year we are working with Green Adelaide to support our school to reduce our waste by increasing our rates of recycling and composting. Sue Moroney has been working closely with students in rooms 2 and 3 to revitalise our kitchen garden as well as investigate ways we can be more responsible with waste.
These year 2-4 students are working enthusiastically to help our school reduce the amount of waste from our school that goes to landfill.
Monies raised through our 10 cent recycling program this year will be going to Koala Rescue. Koalas have been drastically affected by the 2020 bushfires. Our students have been learning about the impact of natural disasters such as bushfires as well as predators and the reduction of the koala’s natural environment as a result of urbanisation.
Enjoy the long weekend,
Joy
