Message from the Principal

Welcome to the first edition of the Brunswick Star.  

The mid-point of Term 1 has seen many activities held, some of which you will read about in later articles.  

Apart from the short lockdown, to date it has been a term  which resembles what we remember school to be, pre-2020.  Enjoying events - such as  the House Swimming Carnival, guest speakers in Home Group, Senior Production rehearsals,  Outdoor Education camps, interschool sport and excursions - has us all reliving the feeling of school pre 2020  - and we hope that this will continue.   If there does need to be any future periods of remote learning however, we know that the school is well placed to deliver continuity of learning in that scenario.  Once again, I pay tribute to our staff and to Learning Technologies Leader, Derek Glennie, for the way we were able to transition our whole school to remote learning during the recent lockdown.

Our new Year 7 students and families have made a wonderful transition to our school.   It was lovely to see so many families attend our Welcome Night where they were able to meet teachers and other families.

We have an additional  four teachers and one pre-service teacher  employed as tutors through the DET-funded tutoring initiative. We have selected the first students to receive this assistance this term, across Year 8-12.  We will  select some Year 7 students for this initiative starting inTerm 2.  The aim of the tutoring initiative is to help build foundational skills for success in 2021, recognising that some students may have some gaps in their learning following the extensive remote learning period last year. 

In the next edition of our newsletter I will be able to inform you of our full 2021 School Council. Following nominations we have our full complement of parent representatives without the need of an election.  Such was the interest from students, we will be holding a student election.   The new 2021 School Council will meet for the first time in the last week of Term 1 when office bearers will be determined.
