Intermediate Sport - PASE - District Swimming

Intermediate Interschool Sport - Monday 22/2.

Intermediate interschool sport returned on Monday, with students competing in Tennis, Cricket, Volleyball and Softball.

We had some great results throughout the day, with our Cricketers and Softballers winning their competitions. The Volleyball teams were fantastic on a very competitive day. Every team won at least two matches. The tennis team also had great day, finishing 3rd overall. With the highlight being Chris year 9 remaining undefeated in singles, despite playing year 10's in every match.

Thanks for your efforts and great sportmanship

Intermediate Boys Cricket

Monday 22nd February, saw the Intermediate Boys Cricket team head down to Le Page for the District Tournament.

Cheltenham was drawn into Pool A along with Elwood S.C and Leibler Yavneh. In Pool B was Melbourne High, Albert Park S.C and Prahran S.C.

Batting first, against Elwood, we managed 4/73 off  9 overs which was a great effort. Batting wise, Jackson retired at 23 and Charlie also retired making 21.

Elwood replied with 3/35 in there 9 overs after a solid bowling effort from our boys.

A good win to start the day with the batting being particularly impressive.

After winning the toss, we had a bat against Yavneh. Early on things were not looking so good  as we were 3/9. Jackson came to the rescue with another polished batting performance, reaching retirement on 22. Lenny made it look easy with a quickfire 20, retired. We finished with 4/57, which was a good recovery given a slow start.

Yavnah in reply limped to 5/43 after requiring 20 off the last over.

With two wins on the board, we had won our pool, while in the other pool, Albert Park had won both of their games as well.

In the Final, we batted first. Lenny again batted well to retire on 20, while Charlie a.k.a "Buckets” chipped in with a classy 23 retired. Jackson finished unbeaten on 13, with the final score on 3/78. A very solid batting effort giving us plenty of runs to defend while having a bowl.

One of their openers got on the front foot early with 21 retired, however his team mates were struggling to keep up with the required run rate. This pressure and some accurate bowling ensured a steady flow of wickets. Requiring more than a lot off the last over, Albert Park finished on 5/62.

A great bowling effort by all of the bowlers with Jack standing out along with Luca, Brody, Archie and Jackson.

A fantastic effort by all the boys winning the District Championship. Even more impressive considering that there were only two Year 10s in the team. A very rare event indeed when a District Championship is won basically by a team of Year 9s.

I would like to congratulate each of the boys on their fantastic achievement but also for the outstanding manner in which they represented the school, demonstrating respect and a great sense of sportsmanship throughout the day. Well done!
