ICT Department

The ICT Department journey in 2019 was a busy one, with the upgrade and consolidation of many services across all technological areas of Mazenod College, covering infrastructure, communications, applications, security and service delivery.

In 2019 Mazenod College underwent massive change as not only did we introduce a new Learning Management System and Portal for staff, students and parents but we also introduced a new medical and excursion management system, and all in record time due to the previous system we used closing its doors and ceasing operation and support, having only given us notice in November 2018. This achievement is not just an achievement of the ICT Department here at Mazenod, but also the countless hours of work and dedication by the fantastic Administrative Team, Health Centre Team, the Head of the LMS, the Digital Coaching Team, the Executive Team, and every teacher who had to upskill in using these systems.

In 2019 we also introduced a new role into the ICT Department, the Database and Systems Integrator, where we welcomed Mr Timothy Beard as a part of our team, who has been a great addition to the dedicated staff in the ICT Department. In 2020 the ICT Department is still working on further improvements to these systems, along with supporting the students, staff and community in using them, however the story does not end there.  The end of 2019 also brought significance to the college as the first time the Computer Device Programme completed a cycle, with all students at Mazenod completing the year having used a device to compliment all their studies.  It also meant that students completing year 12 handed back their devices (with the option to purchase from the college) and the excited students completing year 9, handed back their old devices and were issued with new devices for their final years at Mazenod.  This meant that the ICT Department processed over 1000 devices at the end of 2019. Phew. That being said the work is not yet done.

We have a busy year ahead with a major upgrade to our main server infrastructure scheduled in the third quarter of the year, along with introducing new data analysis solutions, consolidation of digital security of the college network, and other exciting projects such as investigating Microsoft Office 365 use for staff and students.  We will also host the Victorian ICT Network for Education (VINE) technical workshop at Mazenod over the term 1 holidays, where the Mazenod ICT staff will share knowledge and learning with many other ICT Professionals from other schools and colleges, as an opportunity to stay ahead of the constant changing curve of technology and how it applies to Education.
