Year 10 Work Experience
A reminder to all year 10 students that work experience forms must be returned to Ms. Seremetis by Friday 27th March 2020. This is the last week of term 1.
Work Experience dates are Monday 15th – Friday 19th June 2020.

RMIT Experience Surveying Day
31st March 2020, 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Argyle Square Station
If you are interested in a career as a land surveyor, this practical one-hour event hosted by RMIT University provides a fantastic opportunity for you to do practical surveying activities with the help of fully qualified Surveyors.
You will see all the current surveying equipment used in the industry including a digital level, total station, GPS and laser scanner. You’ll get the opportunity to do a practical activity measuring distance and use professional surveying tools to check your measurement.
Events are held each month at Argyle Square and are designed for Year 10 -12 secondary students and school leavers that are interested in mathematics and IT or those considering a career in the industry.

Early Leaders Program (ELP) for Year 11’s at Swinburne
The Early Leaders Program (ELP) provides secondary students with the opportunity to be recognised for extra-curricular activities, making themselves attractive candidates for future employers. The ELP is open to all students who are undertaking Year 11 in 2020. Completion of the Early Leaders Program can be a great achievement to include in applications for employment and further study. Undertaking it also provides a range of valuable benefits to students.
Students can:

In addition to the above benefits, students who successfully complete the Early Leaders Program will be awarded credit towards the Swinburne Emerging Leaders Program, a program for enrolled Swinburne students only.

Studying Marine Science at Deakin’s Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus will provide students with the essential knowledge and skills in ocean systems and resources through a multidisciplinary approach in the areas of marine microbiology and genomics, oceanography, coastal processes, marine modelling, marine biology, marine ecology, fisheries and aquaculture. This course will also provide students with the skills required to join the greater marine science community using new marine technologies and innovative approaches to help protect and drive the sustainable future of the world’s oceans.

Law is a very competitive field; to stand out ahead of other applicants you could work on keeping your grades high and boost your resume with relevant work experience and voluntary work.
How to become a Lawyer in Australia
It can take as little as 4 years from leaving Year 12 to becoming a fully qualified, practising lawyer.
Step 1 – Do well in English and Maths at high school, consider studying legal studies, history and psychology
Step 2 – Look at degrees you’d be interested in, check any pre-requisites required, e.g. sitting the LAT (Law Admission Test)
Step 3 – Complete your university qualifications in Law (e.g. 4 year Bachelor of Laws (Honours) at Monash University, or a 3+3 year undergraduate degree plus the Juris Doctor (JD) at the University of Melbourne)
Step 4 – Undertake Practical Legal Training (PLT) to develop the practical skills and knowledge you’ll need by:
- completing a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice (GDLP) in 6-12 months, or
- undertaking supervised workplace training for at least 12 months (only in QLD & VIC), or
- do a minimum 12 months in a clerkship position (only if you are already working in the legal profession).
Step 5 – Apply for a certificate of practice to work as a legal practitioner in your state or territory:
