School Captains Report

The School Captains set high expectations of themselves and what they aim to achieve this year. The captains explain:

Wow! What a start to the year we have had!! The 10 year celebration party was awesome and we had a fantastic time organising the day. It was a very busy day and we finally got to sit down at 10pm that night. It was a great introduction to the opportunities and responsibilities that we are looking forward to taking on this year.

My name is Taneesha, I’m fairly new to taking on leadership here at The Lakes but I have been doing a lot more leadership work outside of school. I have been involved in the world scouting movement for about 6 months now and I’m loving it. I’m a youth leader for kids between the ages of 5-12 and because of that know a lot more about the kids at the Early Years campus. I wanted to become school captain because I really want to help people at school wide level and promote leadership amongst year levels. I also want to improve on my public speaking skills.

My name is Thomas, I have been SRC two times once in year 6 and the other in year 8. I want to be a school captain because I wanted to take on responsibilities and build my people skills. I am looking forward to this role and what we can achieve as a team this year.

My name is Grace, I wanted to be school captain because it is a great opportunity to build on skills that I can use later on in life. I have some past experience of being a leader, in year 7 I was a young leader, where we worked on our leadership skills like speaking in front of crowds.  My personal goal for this year is to work on my leadership qualities such as confidence to talk and present in front of people.

My name is Naomi, I am one of the school captains of 2017. My past experiences MAD captain, song dance and drama night backstage manager and year 9 jumper committee. I wanted to be a school captain because I wanted to represent the school and influence younger students. My goal for this year is to be able to have more confidence in my choices as a school captain and to be able to influence younger students to be more confident in themselves.

As a School Captain Team, we sat down at the end of last year and reflected on what we would like to bring to our role in 2017, we decided that we would like to build a stronger relationship with the Early Years Campus, run a leadership course, work with Principal Team, attend curriculum meetings, and have one captain from each student leadership portfolio on each school tour.
