Junior School Anti Bullying Poster Competition
PRAYER: Last Friday we had a wonderful assembly to mark the National Day of Action against Violence and Bullying. Sadly, a terrible incident occurred on this day in Christchurch. Please remember the victims and their families in your prayers. I heard a man whose wife had died, talk about forgiveness for the gunmen and it reminded me of a beautiful but also a very challenging prayer for us to follow. The world would be a much better place if we did follow it.
Peace Prayer of Saint Francis
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace: where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.
O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen.
NATIONAL DAY OF ACTION AGAINST VIOLENCE: Congratulations to our bully poster winners. Thank you to Mrs McCarthy and the Year 10 Edmund Rice boys for doing a great job of running and judging this competition. Congratulations to the boys who placed first to fourth in the competition - Eugene Kim, Myles Roche, Justin Robson and Daniel McCarry. There were a lot of great entries.
OPEN DAY: We need to thank you! The boys were wonderful guides, robotics tutors, singers, musicians and panellists for Mr Couani’s Q and A. Thank you to the band of parents who assisted with a myriad of other jobs but especially the food - an army marches on its stomach! Well done to Mrs Rossana Bennett who also went on Mr Couani’s Q and A. It was a great success in many ways. I believe you get out of something what you put in and this will help many of the boys with their confidence in speaking to adults in the future. It is actually a great learning tool for public speaking in a supported environment.

A THOUGHT TO PONDER
It is interesting how all the worlds main religions are like the fingers on a hand and they all have similar values at their core, in the palm of our hands. Following on from the Peace Prayer of St Francis and in the interests of harmony, diversity and different faiths:
(The Prophet Muhammad)
To overcome evil with good is good, to resist evil by evil is evil.
(The Prophet Muhammad)
Thanking you for your support

“. . . My music shows two worlds coming together . . . everyone loves music, everyone listens to music . . . not just hip-hop. . . all different genres of music. When you listen to it, you just get that feeling . . . I rap in English and in Yolngu Maltha, my language . . . to show my side of the story . . . I want to inspire the next generation to keep pushing and keep trying . . . It's important that, no matter the struggles and the pressure society puts on you, stay strong, healthy and positive, you will get through. FOOTBALL CLUB NEWS
We need you!
The Committee is run by parent volunteers. Most of the existing members of the SPX Football Committee have boys in Year 12 and after six years or more will be retiring at the end of 2019, leaving one existing Committee member for 2020. We need your support to transition to a new group of SPX Football parents to maintain continuity and bring new ideas and initiatives into the College.
If we cannot form a Committee then all the good work we have done over the years such as specialist coaching and holiday camps will be at risk, and in some cases may cease to be provided. The effort required is a few hours a month. The roles required for the Committee in 2019 are Communication Manager, Events Manager, Shadow Treasurer and Shadow BBQ Manager.
Please consider joining in. This year is 2019 Unity in Community. Meet the challenge and Get Amongst It. Details on 2019 SPX Football Club activities are attached below.
Please email footballclub@pandf.spx.nsw.edu.au if you are interested or want some more information, or just come along to the next meeting in April.
Term 1 Holiday Football Camp at Oxford Falls: The SPX Football Club will again be organising a two-day football camp during the Term 1 holidays. The camp will be run from 9.00am - 2.00pm on 17 and 18 April at Oxford Falls. Transport to and from the College will be available.
The camp will be run by professional coaches under the direction of Chris Semaan and suits all age groups from Years 5-10. We particularly encourage some of the older boys to come along and get ready for the ISA season starting in Term 2.
Trybooking details are https://www.trybooking.com/UPLP
