2nd XI Cricket - Saturday 5th November
Last Saturday there were four games that were decided by only one point. Some of our teams enjoyed the excitement of winning whilst others endured the disappointment of being so close but pipped at the post. Our 14As also suffered a heartbreaking loss by two points from a buzzer beater. The games that were played against ourselves, our D and E teams were exciting matches.
I was also very pleased with the boy’s sportsmanship and efforts. We might be fierce rivals with St Patrick’s whom we played in many matches; however, the same energy and determination is there when we play against ourselves. Overall we did have a good day against St Patrick’s teams and our Firsts won an essential home match against a big St Patrick’s Firsts. Laurie Fleming played an important point guard role and was well supported by our “Big Men” Dan Markovtzev and Nat Panozzo.
This weekend our 13F and 15F teams have an early start at Central Coast Grammar. The bonus is that it should be a relatively quick trip through Gosford, up to Erina Heights.
Game of the day: Our 13Ds v 13Es. Jacob Goad (13Es) wins it in Golden Goal overtime with a Free Throw from the line. Great stuff from both teams.
Plays of the Day: Jake Watts knocks down the winning Free Throw for the 17Bs.
Will Morris (15Ds) slots a half-court shot after a ‘GEE UP’ request from one of the 15Es.
Deserves a mention: Nick Onslow (13A). Max Harmata (13B). Joel Chand (13D).
Bailey Kee (13E). Ethan Field (14A). Thomas Lawson (14D). Sam Walters (14E).
Kyle Bowen (14B). Carl Fayad (15A). Kalani Lenehan (15B). John McKinnon (15F).
Daniel Aposhian (17A). Cameron Haldane (6ths). Jacques O’Hearn (2nds).
Laurie Fleming and Daniel Markovtzev (Firsts).

Player of the round: Lachlan Hearne (Year 10)
Congratuations to Lachlan on scoring 113 for St Pius X 1st XI v St Patrick's Strathfield.
1st XI v St Patrick’s Strathfield at Breen Oval – ISA Round 3, Saturday 5th November 2016
The 1st XI travelled to Strathfield to play their first away match of the season. This was a battle between the two undefeated teams in the ISA competition and a rematch of the 2015/16 ISA Final. Captain, Dermott Beattie, won the toss and elected to bat first. Lachlan Hearne received some solid support from Joe Unwin (13), Will Roser (14) and James Brown (11) as the score built steadily to 3 for 117. Lachlan was the 9th batsman out after a very classy 113 off 116 balls and was largely responsible for the final total of 9 for 179.
The St Patrick’s top order attacked the SPX bowling from the outset and, despite tight spells from Beattie (1/34 of 10) and Hearne (1/27 of 10), reached the total for the loss of only two wickets. Their opener made a very impressive 109 not out to help the home team to victory.
The 1st XI travel up to the Central Coast this Saturday and are looking to bounce back to form.

NSTA Update: Round 4
Congratulations to our 9 teams who had victories at our home courts at Talus St on the weekend. There were some straight set victories this week and some tight finishes. There were some opportunities for SPX teams to play against each other in this Round so we saw lots of St Pius X Blue across the courts. Some real tenacity shown by our mid-divisions with some 6-5 wins and losses in tie-breaks. Well done to those players who pushed through in tough circumstances.
At the time of this newsletter, results are not yet in from Teams 9, 13 and 17. Those teams need to take action on this quickly.
We have one more round this weekend, with players needing to be available for Play-offs and Finals on the 19th November.
Well done on continued great sportsmanship shown each weekend; spectators have been quick to comment on our players' polite and solid approach to all matches.
