Learning never stops!

It's coming up to the end of the year but that doesn't stop us from learning.

We are engaged in tending our garden, keeping it growing, creating life sized skeletons as part of our Science assessment and engaging in Visual Arts.

Transition Day

New students for 2018 came for a few visits to see how good High School will be for them next year.  Here are a few photos of just one of the activities they enjoyed!

Support Unit Canberra Excursion

On Thursday 30 November, 13 excited students from the Support Unit boarded the school bus bound for 2 days of activities in Canberra with Mr Leyland, Ms St Clair and Ms Bradbury.  The first stop was at Boorowa for morning tea before continuing on to the Cockington Green complex on the outskirts of Canberra.  There students enjoyed the walk-in bird aviary, especially hand feeding the many varieties of birds.  Then it was a short walk to the miniature English and international buildings located at Cockington Green Gardens.  Afterwards we enjoyed walking amongst the models of dinosaurs located outside the dinosaur museum.

Back onto the bus for a drive up Black Mountain to the base of the Telstra Tower for a view over Canberra, before heading to the nearby Botanic Gardens.  On such a hot day the students and staff enjoyed walking along the boardwalks through the cool rainforest section.  Ms St Clair and a small group of boys almost came face to face with a black snake that slithered alongside the boardwalk.  The students were fascinated to see the snake in the wild!

A short drive later we arrived at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) where the students had a guided tour through an interactive games section, as well as training facilities for Gymnastics, Swimming, Weight Training and Volleyball.  Our students enjoyed watching world class athletes during their training sessions as well as competing amongst themselves at the many interactive games.

After the AIS tour we drove to our accommodation at the Greenhills Centre which was located approximately 20 kms out of Canberra in the hills.  Students were very tired but eager to get off the bus and explore their accommodation.  After dinner we all enjoyed a campfire where we got to toast marshmallows and cook damper.

On Friday we headed back towards Canberra City.  We stopped along the way at the Mt Stromlo Observatory before heading to Questacon.  The observatory at Mt Stromlo was severely affected in the firestorm of the 2003 Canberra fires.  Since then the buildings of the Australian National University (ANU) research centre have been rebuilt and the plants and trees have also regenerated.

At Questacon students enjoyed wandering at their leisure amongst the many galleries of interactive scientific displays.  Before leaving Canberra for the drive back to Cowra we stopped at the Australian War Memorial, where students were able to observe a military ceremony being held at the parade area in front of the War Memorial.  We also had time to look at the many war displays and equipment.

Many thanks to Mr Leyland and Ms Bradbury for assisting with the overnight excursion to Canberra.  The students had lots of opportunities to explore some of the sights of Canberra over a busy yet informative two days.
