Rubgy

This week the John XXIII First XV Rugby team competed against Scotch College in their annual game. The weather was very testing with heavy rain and winds, however this did not deter a strong crowd of parents, students and old boy John XXIII College rugby players getting down to support the team. John XXIII had a team of 17 and Scotch College a team of 25 strong which made the last 15 minutes of the game quite challenging as Scotch College had the fresher legs. The John XXIII team held on for the win to finish with a score of 22-19. Congratulations to all the players their coaches Mr Christian Golding and Mr Sandy Mettam on a fantastic final result.

Sport Report

What a massive term for sport we have had. We hit the ground running with NAS trials for all teams in week 1 to start the NAS competition in week 2. I would like to take the time to thank all of our NAS coaches for offering up their time to supervise and coach all of our teams this term. Finals took place this week where John XXIII managed to secure four NAS premiers for the 2019 Winter Season.

  • Year 7 Boys Floorball coached by Deacon Peters
  • Year 8/9 Girls Floorball coached by Mrs Michelle Myers
  • Year 8/9 Boys Floorball coached by Mr Nick Greeney
  • Champions League Netball A coached by Miss Jodi Power
  • Champions League Netball B coached by Miss Grace Westlake

On top of NAS Sport, John XXIII College students have competed in several carnivals throughout the term with very impressive results.

  • SSWA Cross Country Carnival – Overall Champion School
  • ACC Cross Country Carnival – 3rd Overall
  • SSWA 7-9 Ross Meadows Shield Hockey Carnival – 3rd Overall
  • ACC Girls Hockey – Just missing out on progressing to finals
  • ACC Boys Hockey – Overall Champions

The focus has now turned to athletics where training will start up again on Thursday 25 July (week 1 Term 3 ) with professional coaches for all disciplines. Congratulations to all students who have shown dedication to the early morning training sessions over the last two weeks. The numbers and enthusiasm shown at each session from all students has been impressive. Last year John XXIII College was relegated from the A Division to the B Division Carnival. The aim this year is to make it back into the A Division Carnival for 2020. All students are encouraged to attend training sessions next term to help achieve this goal!

I am honoured and proud to be leading such talented sporting students and have enjoyed my first term at the College. I hope everyone enjoys their holiday and I look forward to seeing you all next term.
