Around The Primary

Dear Parents
Today’s assembly was hosted by the Pre-Primary students and it was wonderful to see many happy and excited young faces on the stage in Roncalli Hall. Special thanks to our Pre-Primary teaching team for all the time and effort behind the scenes.
Term Two has been full of so many activities and events, such as, Sacramental preparations, Mother’s Day celebrations, Canberra Camp, Winter Sports Lightning Carnival, NAPLAN and our Music Eisteddfod.
On top of all of this, exceptional teaching and learning has taken place in every part of the Primary school. Thank you to our staff for all of their hard work, they truly go above and beyond to ensure that our John XXIII students receive the highest standard of education. Special thanks to our parent community for all your wonderful support.
This afternoon Semester One reports will be available via SEQTA. If you have any questions or concerns related to your child’s report, please email and make an appointment with the class teacher or specialist teacher. The holiday break is the ideal time to help your child celebrate the positives on their report and to encourage them to keep working hard on those aspects of their learning that are challenging.
I hope that all families have the opportunity to spend some quality time together this holidays and rejuvenate in preparation for the next ten weeks of learning.
Happy holidays!
Kind regards,
Antoinette De Pinto
Head of Primary

Sports News
Winter Lightning Carnival
On Tuesday seven schools visited the College to play Netball, Soccer, Hockey and AFL games in the annual IPSHA Winter Lightning Carnival. The weather was fantastic and we had an amazing 45 teams playing throughout the day! I was extremely impressed with not only the general standard across the sports but the respect and sportsmanship displayed by all players, especially from our students. Thank you to all the parents volunteers on the day and a huge well done to all the Yr 6’s (and the lucky Yr 5’s).
Cross Country
Well done to all the cross country runners who have been training hard and trying to improve their scores each week. The Interhouse Cross Country will be on Tuesday 30 July (Week 2). Remember to try and get a few runs in over the holidays to maintain your fitness levels.

Future Voters
Last Friday the Year 5’s went to Parliament House and the Electoral Education Centre. When we got to Parliament House we went on a tour of the building itself and participated in an interesting role play about an animal cruelty bill. I was awestruck by the scale of the pivotal proceedings that went on in that amazing building and the role -play really gave me a sense of how much is involved in making a bill a law. At the Electoral Education Centre we watched a video about voting and what goes on behind the scenes of an election. It was very informative.
Joseph Scott (5G)
At school we participated in our own class election and tried to make it as authentic as possible. Candidates presented excellent speeches and promoted their parties with good policies and posters! We had to enrol to vote and followed the preferential voting system. Some class members submitted postal votes if they were absent on voting day. Our class electoral officers and scrutineers did a great job of counting the votes and checking on the voters.
Year 5G
Bricksville
In Design and Technology lessons the Year 4 students have been designing and constructing futuristic and sustainable cities using Lego. The process has included sketching designs, recreating the design in ‘Lego Digital Designer’ to simulate the designs in 3D and finally constructing amazing models.
Enjoy the video!
'Rolling Tears'
It's NAIDOC week and Alyssa Mignacca (4G) has written a historical narrative titled ‘Rolling Tears’. Please take the time to read this amazing narrative.
Sacramental Certificates
When children receive the Sacraments of First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion and Confirmation, please email copies of their certificates to nancy.petsos@cewa.edu.au for our College records.
Counsellor's Corner
With reports out at the end of this week, this can be a time of reflection on both the success and the challenges of the first half of the year. Michael Grose (Parenting Ideas) offers some advice in the attached article on how to respond positively to children’s reports.
If you have any concerns about how your child is managing at school, please don’t hesitate to contact me next term.
Kind regards
