Senior School News

The New Student Luncheon was held on Monday 5th March as a way to touch base with all of our new students across the college. It was great to see students across the year levels mingling with one another.

Christalia Formoso, the college nurse, and Morgan Hunter, our new social worker, have been running “Lifestyle Checks” with our Year 12 students with a focus on maintaining balanced lifestyles throughout the year. The Wellbeing Team are always available to students if they require assistance.

Year 10 & 11 News

On the 28th February, Year 10 World of Business and Year 11 Business Management students were fortunate to spend a lesson with Soren from Smart Money. During the hour, students discussed spending habits of today's society, the role of advertisements in the marketplace and the importance of making good consumer decisions.

Some comments from students include:

'I believe Soren was very good at getting his point across, not boring at all... he talked about tracking your money (using a tracking app) so that you can save more efficiently' - Jaymin Patel

'Soren taught me that we are often tricked into buying things we do not, in fact, need' - John Kouskoulis

'I learnt about the different marketing strategies that are done to trick consumers into buying products. He told us how to avoid these tricks and to save money. I found it interesting to see how things that you might have not even thought about may affect you while you are shopping' - Jasmine HG

'I liked how he would relate all the information to us so that we could understand how it can impact our lives' - Jade

Overall, students were challenged to learn to be savvy consumers in a society that may often value over consumption and over spending.

Year 11 News

Exciting news! Year 11 Ski Camp is now on and dates are 12th  to 14th  September.  The first installment payment of $140.00 is required by Friday 23rd March.  Only 60 students can attend so please get in quickly so you do not miss a great camp.

Students need to ensure that they are dedicating the hours to study as the honeymoon period for VCE is over.  Students should be averaging 2 hours each night of homework and revising notes.  If anyone wants assistance with a study timetable, please come to senior school and we can work on that together.

Year 12 News

It has been a tremendous start to the year for our Year 12 students.  As I wander the corridors I am heartened to see that collectively they are using their private study periods effectively by completing either set homework or preparing for SACs.

However there will be times when students' stress levels will increase especially as the amount of work increases.  I cannot stress enough the importance of organising a home study routine, which is flexible and which encompasses some free/fun time.  I encourage Year 12 students to come and see me if they need assistance with putting together a home study timetable.

On a lighter note, the Year 12 Executive is working hard organising the Year 12 formal, which I am sure is going to be one of the highlights of their year. At the time of writing this article, the invitations are nearly ready for printing.

Senior School Go-Kart Challenge

This year the gloves are off and a challenge has been put out. Year 11 and 12 students are participating in building a go-kart. Each group are given the resources and then drawing on their experience gained in the Year 7 to 10 materials subjects, go away to plan, design and construct a go-kart each. Students will then compete in the Thunderdrome (paddock) racetrack. May the best team win.
