Assistant Principal

A great big welcome back to everybody after the term break.  I really hope you all took advantage of the opportunity to slow down, refresh and get ready for another great term of learning.  Term 2 is a 10 week term this year and will bring us all the way through to the end of June.  There is a lot planned, including camps and excursions, our biennial Japan trip with some of our students in Years 5 and 6, Mother’s Day celebrations, sporting events, our annual Open Night celebration, Parent Teacher Interviews and NAPLAN assessments for our students in Years 3 and 5.  Please also ensure that you have Monday, June 17th marked in your diary for our Curriculum Day – your child will not come to school that day.

Open Night

Our Open Night for 2019 will be held on Monday, May 27th, 2019 from 6:30 until 7:30pm.  Our theme will be, “Celebrating Careers,” in line with the Department of Education’s theme for Education Week

We are inviting parents and community members to showcase their careers through an activity based approach.  Students will be encouraged to move around the school learning about careers by engaging in fun activities.  Every student will carry a passport with them and will record the Habits of Mind that are required to be successful in each of the careers.  Once their passport is full, they will return to the office to be entered into a draw, the winner of which will be announced at our school assembly.

Parents and community members who volunteer to present at our Open Night will be assigned to a certain year level team, who will help them design the activities, identify 2-3 relevant Habits of Mind and will be present on the night to help with set up and the running of the activities.  The focus of the evening will be on three key questions:

  • How much has your career changed in the past 10 years?
  • How different do you predict your career will be in 2030?
  • What Habits of Mind are required for you to be successful in your career?

If you have any questions or are interested in participating in our Open Night activities, please email me or speak to your child’s classroom teacher by Monday, May 6th.

Please note that the staff will help and assist parents to run these activities – you will not be expected to come up with all of the games, Habits of Mind and answers to the above questions on your own.

Special Celebrations Working Party

The next meeting of our Special Celebrations Working Party is scheduled for 2:30pm on Monday, May 13th in the staffroom.  There are lots of exciting events coming up and we value input from as many people as possible.  Please let me know if you would like to join us or if you have any questions about the group.
