Annual School Swimming Carnival
On Tuesday, February 4th Suzanne Cory's annual school swimming carnival came to life and the house spirit was outstanding.
The day ran smoothly as students competed in their houses for dodgeball, swimming races and novelty events such as fashions by the pool and egg and spoon relays. The students were very competitive throughout the day and several of the previous records were broken.
For the first time Blackwood won the overall competition with 896 points to defeat Kororoit by 32 points who had never lost the event.
It was a fantastic day overall with participation at its peak and was a wonderful way to introduce the year 9 students to the house competitions.
Annual Athletics Carnival
This year the annual athletics carnival was held on Thursday, March 27th, showcasing the amazing house spirit and sportsmanship that Suzanne Cory has to offer.
The rain held off for staff and students as they competed in various track and field events to earn house points. Participation levels were at a high and costumes were as creative as ever for the 2020 athletics.
The continuous relay ran all day with Cottrell taking away the most points with 49 laps followed closely by Kororoit on 45. Blackwood took the win for house chants, whilst Koroiot was the favorite for the fashions.
The overall winner for the annual carnival by more than 200 points, was Kororoit.
The day ended with the year 12 lap of honor and was an outstanding day overall.
Inter-school Activities
Debating
This year we’ve had a record number of students enrolling in inter-school debating which speaks volumes about the enthusiasm and commitment of the students at Suzanne Cory. We hope that all students in reserve should be able to get a place on a team either at an inter-school level or in house debating as the year progresses.
This year we have 14 teams registered with the Debaters Association of Victoria.
We have 4 teams at Year 9 (D Grade), 4 at Year 10 (C Grade) 3 at Year 11 (B Grade) and 2 teams at Year 12 (A Grade)
For the 1st round of debates we gathered at Williamstown High School (Bayview Campus) Wednesday evening March 11th.
The topics on that night were:
A Grade: That we regret the rise of streaming platforms (such as Netflix and Disney+)
B Grade: That we should ban climate change denial
C Grade: That children should be legally required to take care of their parents rather than placing them in aged care
D Grade: That we should limit the number of cars that each household can own
Out of the 14 teams we had 4 forfeits from other teams and we won 7 out of the remaining 10 which takes us to a total of 11 wins for 14 overall.
Great work and a terrific result from all the students involved.

Boys Cricket
Intermediate boys cricket went to Galvin park on the 17/2 and they won all three games against The Grange, Hoppers Crossing and ICOM. They went on to play against Tarneit and won at Goddard reserve and are now waiting to play the final in Geelong.
Senior boys won all three of their games at Galvin Park on the 20/2 but didn’t make the next round due to a lower run rate.
Volleyball
On the 24/2 the intermediate girls and boys volleyball teams went to Eagle Stadium to compete against the other schools. The girls team finished 5th and the boys finished 4th.
The senior girls and boys played volleyball at Eagle Stadium on the 6/3. The senior girls team lost 3 games and didn’t play off in finals. The senior boys won 1 of 3 games and played off in finals to finish 5th.

Sydney Australian Taekwondo Masters Championship
Four of our students travelled to Sydney to compete in the Australian Taekwondo Masters Championship. They competed against athletes from universities, private clubs and other high schools. This was our school’s second time participating in an interstate competition and we continue to move forward. Our students exemplified our school values whilst representing Suzanne Cory High School. I was proud to see our students continue to push their limits and succeed in the face of constant challenges they faced balancing their academic and sporting success.
I would like to congratulate the students!
