Melbourne Cup Week Celebrations!

This week in Foundation - Year Two Performing Arts Lessons, we have been working on our Listening and Responding skills though movement. 

 

We listened to two classical pieces of music and used hobby horses, the parachute and movement scarves to explore different parts of the music, respond to loud and soft (dynamics) and fast and slow (tempos).

 

The first song we listened to was the "William Tell Overture" by Rossini which was a familiar melody to some of the children. I wonder if any of our families at home are familiar with the main melody of this song? 

 

The second song we looked at was very fast paced and a favourite of our Foundation children. It was Aaron Copland's "Hoe-Down." This classical piece is featured in his Rodeo collection and is one of four iconic works, it is well worth the listen. 

 

Classical music is a wonderful tool that we use in our music time to listen, respond, play and create. It allows children the freedom to explore and express themselves through movement and helps to transport them to magical places.
