Positive Play for All

Playtime - a positive experience

We are so lucky at Miners Rest Primary to have lovely play options in our school grounds. From established playground equipment to the oval, there are many options to excite the imagination.

As our playtimes remain staggered, there is lots of space available for all years levels and a lovely sense of community as the Foundation to Year 2 head out together, and then the Year 3-6 students head out later for their breaks.

Added to this, we now have the library open as a quiet space for reading, colouring, listening to music or playing with Lego. This is a lovely place to take a few moments to settle, have quiet conversations or just step out of the hustle and bustle of active play. It is open for 20 minutes of Junior lunch from Monday to Friday and also open for 20 minutes during Senior lunch from Monday to Thursday.

With lots of options and opportunities, it is really beneficial to plan activities, e.g. tiggy, basketball, footy, meeting in the quiet front area. This gives purpose to heading out, catching up with friends and having a great time. Making plans before going out also supports those children who struggle to hop easily into big groups, and engages others who might lack for ideas but actually love joining in. Can your child be someone who makes that extra special effort to include others?

What have your children been up to recently during play time at Miners Rest Primary? Have they been playing organised games? Using sports equipment on the tennis or basketball court? It would be great to have a conversation at home about what you used to do at lunch when you went to primary school. I wonder if things have really changed that much!

Thanks everyone and have a great week in the yard!
