Year 1/2
Pete Comer Flowers by Hugo Barclay and Louise Razga
In Year 1/2 the students read the story of Edwina the Emu. From this they looked at the shape of the Emu, the colour and the texture. Using chalk pastel the students created the initial shape of the Emu head, then added colour blending darker blue around the edges. We talked about the shape of the beak and the eyes. Finally the students added texture, putting hairs around the edge of the Emu's head. Each Emu has its own personality. Well done everyone.
The Grade 1/2 students started by looking at the work of Pete Cromer, an Australian Arist who creates collages. First they painted a board with a whitewash background. Next they pained paper with many different colours and added textures. This paper was shared and used to create their own native flowers. They assembled the pieces and layered them. Once they were happy they glued the flowers onto the boards. Beautiful!
The Year 1/2 Students have been creating spiders. There is nothing more scary to us Pommies than a spider. Andy they can be HUGE..... We made some friendly spiders using cardboard and pipe cleaners. The students gave their spider a colourful design using paint and textas. They assembled their spiders layering the parts and adding some googly eyes. We had great fun.
In Year 1/2 the students looked at the work of Van Gogh, they looked at how he used repeated lines to create visual texture. The students choose a well known Australian place to replace the town used in "Starry Night". For example, Flinders Street Station or the Opera House. Then they created their own starry night sky using war or cool colours. First they painted the swirls then they added lots of small lines to create movement. They look amazing, well done.
