Hi I’m Edith,

My team and I will be giving you a book review each week as part of our section ‘Weekly Dose of Books’.

I love reading because sometimes I need to have a break from reality and good books always take your mind of stuff and transport you to a different world.

I usually find myself loving the heroes and sometimes loving the villains as well!

If you would like to write in with a book review, we would love to hear from you. We are in class 4CB, so bring your reviews over.

Remember to tell us.

Toms Midnight Garden Review. Read it now!

9/10

Toms midnight garden is written by Philippa Pearce

Age:8+

Summary: Tom has to go to his aunt and uncle's house because his household has measles. At the apartment block, Tom wishes that he could go back home and play with his brother Peter. But, he finds that every midnight he is transported to the past, where he finds a lovely garden and a lonely girl called Hatty. When he has to go home, he tries to find a way to stay with Hatty in the beautiful garden forever.

I just felt transported to this magical place. I recommend it to 8+. It teaches a strong lesson that you cannot live forever, so enjoy the present while it lasts. I think that this is a perfect example of a good read. I give it 9 out of 10.

Some good lines are:

“Nothing stands still, except in our memory.”

“A habit of solitude in early childhood is not easily broken. Indeed, it may prove lifelong.”

“Tom went slowly down the attic stairs. Then, at the bottom, he hesitated: he turned impulsively and ran up again - two at a time - to where Hatty Bartholomew still stood..."
