Week 8 Term 1

Dear Parents and Carers,

March 13 to March 20 is a week that recognises Catholic Education Week in Melbourne. The theme for 2022 “THE WAY OF THE GOSPEL” is based on Archbishops Comensoli's 2021 Pastoral Letter, which has a focus on parish renewal.

 https://melbournecatholic.org/about/take-the-way-of-the-gospel

The Way of the Gospel challenges, us to find the living Christ in our midst and to respond and adapt to the questions that are asked in each generation

  • How might our Catholic school communities continue to bring to life the way of the Gospel today and in the future?
  • How might we continue to invite our students, our families and our staff into the fullness of the way of the Gospel?

As a Catholic school, we continue to invite the students to be more like the person of Jesus.  Eg. Modelling kindness, sharing, understanding friendships, acceptance of all, forgiveness, giving, are some ways we bring the life of the way of the Gospel today at St Fidelis.

Last week all students participated in an incursion facilitated by BULLY ZERO organisation, a perfect tuning into the Gospel of Matthew (7:12): “In everything, do to others what you would have them do to you. . . .” By linking the two, the students are invited to discuss what this Gospel phrase means to us in the context of the Bully Zero presentation. This is one example of bringing to life the way of the Gospel today and in the future.

Creative Arts Exhibition Catholic Education Week

Saint Patrick’s Day

On Thursday, March 17, we celebrate St Patrick’s Day. Our whole school prayer on Friday will focus on St Patrick. The Year 5/6 students will go on an excursion to view the Creative Arts Exhibition and visit St Patrick’s Cathedral on Thursday.

The Breastplate of St. Patrick

This prayer is easy for kids to understand. It is a simple, yet beautiful concept, asking Christ to surround us in every way!

Christ with me, Christ before me,

Christ behind me, Christ in me,

Christ beneath me, Christ above me,

Christ on my right, Christ on my left,

Christ when I lie down,  Christ when I sit down,

Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,

Christ in the mouth of every man who speaks of me,

Christ in the eye that sees me, Christ in the ear that hears me.

School Closure Day- Tuesday March 15

Today the teachers engaged in a Professional Learning Day with a focus on the “Five elements of effective assessment practice”. It was a terrific day facilitated by Sue Walsh. This pedagogical model is a model for us to ensure we have a Whole School Approach to Learning and Teaching and to ensure that we focus on WHAT MATTERS MOST IN LEARNING TEACHING AND LEADING.

Four-Year-Old Students from Doris Blackburn

Last week we welcomed the four-year-old students, families and their teachers to St Fidelis. The students engaged in a STEM (robotic) lesson followed by an art and craft activity. Our aim is to build a partnership with our local kindergartens which in turn will assist with a smooth transition to school for families and students. Next term we welcome Rose Street kindergarten students to St Fidelis.

Sibling Enrolments for 2023

If you have a child commencing Foundation in 2023, please enrol your child by the end of March so we can determine how many places will be available to new families for 2023. You can collect your enrolment forms from the school office or download them from our website.
