Sam Kerr - Soccer enthusiasts

As you may be aware Sam Kerr, the captain of the Matildas Australian Women's soccer team has written a series of exciting chapter books.

Last week I was contacted to see if our students would like to ask Sam a few questions about her books and her journey into soccer and captaincy. Well, the response was overwhelming with over 40 students coming in for a lunchtime meeting. Out of this large group a number of questions were chosen to be read out on a Zoom which will later be transposed into a podcast on which Sam Kerr herself will answer the questions.

I thank the students for their enthusiasm. We are also really loving the books and we are looking forward to the podcast.

  • THURSDAY: Yr 1 and Yr 6

LIBRARY BAGS -  ALL students require a bag.

All students, K - 6 must have a library bag. This is listed as a requirement on the student equipment list each year.

LOTS and LOTS of NEW BOOKS to be borrowed with a LIBRARY BAG.

LIBRARY BAGS MATTER...  Not just some of the time but all of the time.

No food or drink on my books.

Food and drink are for the chooks.

Library bags keep ‘em clean.

Books are cool don’t treat ‘em mean.

Bring your bag every time.

Fill it up and get in line.

Have it scanned and scoot on out.

LIBRARY BAGS

We all shout.

WORLD BOOK ONLINE - Staff Zoom

This week at our Wednesday staff meeting the topic was a Zoom with our WorldBook  consultant Libby Gray. The staff were informed about new features of the resource and areas which were of particular interest to their grade. The feedback from teachers was excellent.

Of note was the eBook section which features unlimited access to a book. Essentially a whole grade could be reading the same text, which is wonderful for our students to enjoy rather than having to put a hold on a text it is always available - at home and at school 24/7.

St Nicholas School Library subscribes to this wonderful free resource.

The resource includes the following sections -  Kids, Student, Timelines, Maps, and eBooks.

This resource is available for use at home FREE of charge and FREE of advertisements and pop-ups which distract our students / children from learning and reading.

By the end of next week every student will receive a bookmark with the St Nicholas School login and password for remote, at home, access.

If you have not logged on and had a browse around, sit down with your child and ask them about it. I'm sure all primary-aged students will be able to show you some of the features.
