5E

By David Joyce

We have had a busy first half of Term 1 in 5E with Camp, Athletics and Swimming all happening in the first 5 weeks.

Camp - Senuli

On camp we learnt about Ned Kelly and his court trial at the Beechworth Court. We got to express our voice and everyone could see what Ned Kelly’s life and trial was like. We learnt how to gold pan and lots of students found gold and silver in the creek. We visited Old Beechworth Gaol and learnt about the Kelly gang and his family being locked up there. We spent money at the Lolly shop, Beechworth Honey and the Ice cream store which we budgeted for before camp.

Athletics - Aarihant

It was great fun at the athletics track where we got to compete at all of the sports which included 800m and triple jump. We had chances to win ribbons at each event and score points for our house. It was good to be outside and active with my friends.

Non-campers - Harish

Non-campers researched the different migrants that came to Victoria during the gold rush including Chinese, British, European and Irish. Children were exposed to extreme conditions during this time, many of the children were criminals charged with larceny (stealing) due to their poor living conditions and needing food back England.

Aisha really liked the bush dancing because we got to collaborate with other people and make new connections and get to meet them face to face.

Anshaal really enjoyed the gold panning because there was lots of gold and the river was really nice.

Dylan liked the honey tasting because we got to try the different kinds of honey and where they came from before we decided which one to buy.

Olivia really enjoyed staying at the Old Priory because we got to discover a new and unfamiliar place plus the food was delicious.

Damsara enjoyed the courthouse experience because we got to roleplay the Ned Kelly Court case and he played the role of Ned Kelly’s Lawyer.

Vinu enjoyed the long jump at athletics because it involved different skills of running and jumping and was different to what I had done before.
