In the Art / Craft Room

Art

Students have completed their folio designs and we are well into our term one focus of exploring Pop Art. The artists we are studying are Andy Warhol, Kaws, Keith Haring and Bansky. Pop Art started with artists like Andy Warhol, who was one of the first artists to blur the boundary between popular culture and art. Warhol, like other Pop artists, wanted to create art that could appeal to everyone, so used images from mass media, such as comic books, consumer products, advertising, current affairs and celebrities. We also looked at street art and how these artists create art that makes us question the world we live in.

The students have been fascinated to learn about the lives and art of these four artists. Students in classes three to six have been doing their own research on one or more of the selected artists, to create their Pop Art inspired works. Students in prep to two have been looking at the poster works of Keith Haring to create figurative colourful images.

To support student learning, parents and carers  are invited back into the art room. You will need a current working with children check. Please sign in at the office before you come to the art room.

Craft

We have made great progress on our felting unit exploring both wet and dry felting techniques. Students in Prep and class one are making felted stress balls. One to take home and one for our calm boxes. In class two students are making little treasure boxes using a foam cube as the form. In class three we read the story by Aunty Joy Murphy, Welcome to Country. Students selected an image to draw from the book and then used the needle felting technique to create a wall hanging.

In Classes four/five and six are both making felted houses. Students have been given a lot of freedom to design a dwelling of their choice. We are all working on the walls first and then we work on the roof seperatly. Students are able to dry needle felt the details on their craft work as well as cutting out windows and doors.

To support student learning, parents and carers are invited back into the craft room. You will need a current working with children check. Please sign in at the office before you come to the art room.
