Class

Kelsey Smith

Head of Curriculum

We have had some fantastic results coming from both our Year 11 and 12 students in recent assessments. It is great to see so many students using their time in class and during prep effectively, going on to achieve outstanding assessment results.

As we approach the end of Term 1, I encourage all students to reflect on their efforts this term. Most of you have worked tirelessly, sought help where required, submitted drafts for feedback and completed all set homework. Some of you are finding these skills more challenging. I would encourage every student to think about how they could make small changes to improve their effort in their studies, such as not packing up 5 minutes early just before lunch or ensuring you have packed all required materials the night before a class. You may like to make bigger changes such as adding an extra hour of homework/study/assessment work to your weekends. Small improvements often will lead to greater results further down the track.

Continuation of Learning

Thank-you to all the students and parents/caregivers who have been assisting in accessing and completing work while students are away from the College. If you are absent from school, please do not hesitate to reach out to myself or classroom teachers if you require assistance or more information on set tasks.

Elevate Education

Elevate Education are a group who assist students to improve their study techniques, increase motivation, build confidence and life exam performance. They will be coming to the College next week on the 24th of March for workshops with ATAR students. Year 12 ATAR will complete the Time Management Workshop from 9:00 - 10:00am, while the Year 11 ATAR students will complete the Study Sensei Workshop from 10:20 - 11:20am.

Combined University Visit

In the past, we have hosted a Combined University Visit where representatives from Edith Cowan University, Curtin University and Murdoch University visit the College to speak to students regarding courses they offer and different entry pathways. Due to COVID-19, this year’s the visit will be virtual, with representatives from each university speaking to us via WebEx.

The WebEx will take place on the 31st of March at 1:30 - 2:30pm in the Rec Centre.

The WebEx will be for all ATAR students, however General students who would like attend should register interest with Miss Smith.

Year 11 ATAR Animal Production Systems

Year 11 ATAR APS students have been learning about the new Work Health and Safety laws coming into effect, and the support available to ensure compliance, such as industry Codes of Practice and the Safe Sheds Safety Program. We are also familiarising ourselves with the Code of Practice for Preparation of Australian Wool, as well as identifying and managing safety risks.

Julli Gaunt, Worksafe, has been an online guest presenter this week and Owen Snook, Shearing and Shed Hand Trainer program, Australian Wool Innovation shared his knowledge in our practical lesson. It is great to have these direct industry connections for our students, so they receive the latest information. The students have demonstrated a great attitude and enthusiasm towards their learning.
