Almost half way through the term already, and the senior school students have been working well as they head into their first School Assessed work tasks for the semester. Many are making the most of the senior study centre and library during study sessions to prepare for the first English task this coming Monday. We wish them all the best and have confidence in their ability to apply themselves to their fullest potential and in doing so set themselves up in good stead for the rest of the semester.
Our year 12 students had the pleasure of receiving some study tips and general advice on how to successfully navigate through year 12 by our high achieving students from 2021. Our year 12 College captains Monika and Arona hosted a “Q and A “style forum during last Thursday’s assembly session. They asked the tough questions, and were told some home truths about the importance to be able to focus when studying, including removing all distractions such as phones, to plan ahead and to have that quiet place to study. They were also reminded to seek support from class teachers regularly to ensure they were on track with their learning.
The year 12 Jackets arrived this week, in time for the individual school photos. They look great, thank you to Mr Ladnjak and Ms Cartisano for their work with the students last year in the selection of a great design.
The college held its term one Curriculum Day last Tuesday, where teachers were able to compete some curriculum auditing to ensure that we are meeting the requirements set out in the Victorian Curriculum. The school undertakes this process every few years to ensure that our curriculum offerings remain engaging and relate directly to the skills we are expected to develop in our students. Teachers also worked in their Key Learning Area Teams to create approaches to improve and measure reading skills in all students. Thank you to Ms Siryani and Ms Gulbayrak for leading the staff learning on this day. This work will lead in the culmination of a whole school curriculum map of our subject skills development in years 7 to 10. Information will be used to further strengthen and align our approaches to continue to deliver state of the art learning opportunities here at Lalor Secondary college
Out and about on Friday, I embarked on the year 12 Physics students completing experiments relating to force. They were testing their hypothesis whilst enjoying being in the outdoors and learning.
