A Communitas Event

Communitas!

This term I’ve been talking to all the students in my music classes about a concept called Communitas.

It’s not a commonly used term, but it’s something I read about during the long lockdown months. We have been using the term to describe the feeling of when a whole community comes together to celebrate itself and to have a great time!

Communitas is the feeling you might get when you come to the Winter Magic Market and everyone from your community is there. You could feel it at a birthday party, a sports club awards night, or a Scouts camping trip. It’s the feeling we haven’t been able to experience for years!

A Communitas Event

So on Sunday, March 27 you are all invited to a big Brunswick Communitas event.

We will be holding the event at Siteworks, which is a fantastic open outdoor space in Brunswick, right next to the Brunswick Baths.

Some of the details are yet to be confirmed, and we’ll provide more info as we get closer to the date. We are hoping to make this a big, safe celebration of our community!

The day of the event

During the day we will have a rehearsal for all the students who are keen to take part.

  • Foundies & Juniors at 12pm
  • Middles & Seniors (and any other interested adults or older kids) at 1pm

It would be great to get lots of the students to the rehearsal, but if it’s not possible then you can still just come for the main performance.

The Communitas Performance at 4pm

The Communitas Performance will involve lots of music, group participation and maybe even some art-making! It will only be a short performance, probably 30 - 45 minutes.

Details

Siteworks will run a BBQ, and there will be a bar, with a small range of food and drinks for purchase. We will also work with the BNWPS CET to see if we can expand these offerings.

This is a free and voluntary event. We will be sending out more info and asking you all to book tickets so we can plan for the day, but those details will be sent out closer to the event date.

We would love some Helpers and Volunteers on the day. We would be looking for adults to help check tickets on the gate, supervise and help during the event, and especially any car or van owners to help move some instruments on the day!

We will send out more info, ticket details, and ask for volunteers soon, just wanted to let everyone know about the event and the date. Can’t wait!
