BNW Playing in the Yard

This week in classrooms, we have been exploring our yard agreement and stick play rules.

We feel very lucky at BNW, that we have such large grounds with lots of different types of spaces to play in! We want to make sure everyone is able to have fun and feel safe in our yard.

Stick play is another very special part of our school. In order to continue to be creative problem solvers in the cubby world, it is important we all understand some basic rules around stick play.

We would love if you would like to have a chat about these documents with your child – they might even be a great way to guide a conversation about where they play in the yard and the adventures they get up to!

It is also important to remember that we are a Sun Smart School.

This means that we are required to wear hats that cover the ears, cheeks and neck.

Please help your children to be SunSmart by checking if they still have their broad-brimmed hat and are using it at recess, lunch and during outdoor classes.

Hats can be purchased at the front office for $15. (Worn by the beautiful Ange Hopkins)

If they do not have a sun smart hat, they will need to play in the undercover area.

The Cancer Council states “Broad-brim, bucket or legionnaire hats offer the best protection from UV radiation. Baseball or peaked caps and sun visors are not recommended, as these styles do not protect the ears, cheeks or neck.” Check the information sheet attached for more information.
