5-8 Community News

Dear Families/Caregivers,

What a busy few weeks it has been. Talk about resilient children! Your children have handled the start to the term exceptionally well.

There is a bit occurring across our Community as the weeks progress.  TA meeting/s have commenced. For any child who has a Personalised Learning Plan (PLP) and requires adjustments in the classroom, a discussion around your child's progress will also form this conversation. If you missed the chance to book a conversation with your TA, please email them to book a time.

At this meeting, discussions will also include the following:

  • How your child has settled in?
  • Their individualised learning goal for Term 1
  • Where your child can improve in Term 1

What's been really promising is watching students move into TA at the beginning of the school day from 8:50am to 9:10am. Recently, all students across the 5-8 area have begun to explore the following themes from 'The Resilience Project'.

  • What is Resilience and how can I apply this?
  • What is empathy? How do I show empathy towards others?
  • Gratitude - What am I grateful for?

This video is a worthwhile watch.

Likewise, all students in Years 7 and 8 were introduced to their own individual 2022 Student diary. These tools are to be used as a form of communication and for students to take to each of their classes, along with their device and their book/s.  Please continue to support this change by reminding our students to bring along their diaries to each of their classes and then back home.

SOLE Focus

A reminder that students are expected to be correctly wearing the College uniform. If your child is out of uniform, please provide your child with a note.

Lastly, Friday 4th March is 'House Colours Day.  Students are encouraged to wear their house colours on this day. The idea of building team spirit will be encouraged across this day and through a variety of games led by our Student Leaders: Dylan Priest, Hannah Messenger, Ben Chapman, Charlie Isaac, Charli Miller, Jacob Grima, Beau Badgery, Cooper O'Neill and Teaghan Buntine.

Years 5-8 English

Our students continue to enjoy reading and comprehending their novels. Their vocabulary, fluency, spelling and comprehension are all improving as they work through the chapters within the novel each week. Photos are from our Years 5/6 and Year 7 areas.
