Principal's Report

Dear Parents,

WILSON’S PROMONTORY CAMP

Last week our grade 5/6’s students went on our biannual camp to Wilson’s Prom. At our school we believe every child should have the opportunity to visit the Prom as it truly is one of the most beautiful settings for a camp in Australia. The students camped for three nights at Tidal River. While there they did a range of activities that include canoeing, surfing and fishing.

Unfortunately as you are all aware we are having some COVID issues from camp, which has impacted on many students being absent this week. Having said that I’m so pleased that almost all of the students did the range of activities.

The photos below really tell the story of how much the students enjoyed their week at the Prom.

OUR SCHOOL BEING RECOGNISED AGAIN

This week Flick and I have been asked to present at the North Eastern Region Principal Forum.  We will be presenting how we set up for the year and how we switch the children straight back into learning.  On top of that in a few weeks time Jess Howe and I have been asked to present to Early Childhood Educators and other Prep teachers in the North Eastern Region around how we transition and start teaching our Prep students.

As a school we understand that we need to do the best that we can to help the wider system as a whole. But it is also nice to know that DET recognises and values the work we are doing at WYPS.

NEW BUILDING UPDATE

The plans are finalised and the tender process is almost finished which means at the moment we are on track for the building to start construction in late April. The first thing you will notice is that the first 5/6 portable will be moved in the holidays to another spot near the East boundary.

We are hoping for minimum disruptions but I’m sure there will be some. It will all be worth it in the end when we have a new school building – New administration area, 8 new classrooms, library, art room, science room and cooking/German room. It has amazed me though how far 10.6 million dollars does not go!

JUNIOR SCHOOL COUNCIL

The following students have been elected to our JSC as class representatives and will receive their badges very soon. JSC is one of the ways we have for students to have a voice in the way their school runs. Congratulations to the following students:
