Instrumental Music Program

If you were unable to attend any of the Welcome BBQs, you still have the opportunity to join the instrumental music program by clicking this link. Make sure you select three instrument preferences as we like to have balanced ensembles to create a much better experience for the students. 

 

The Instruments available to learn at school are:

  • Brass – Tuba, Euphonium, Trombone, French Horn and Trumpet
  • Percussion – includes drum kit, xylophone, timpani
  • Strings – Double Bass, Cello, Viola and Violin
  • Woodwind – Saxophone, Clarinet and Flute
  • Voice and Keyboard

We have plenty of Brass, Woodwind and String instruments available to hire from the school too. Smaller instruments are offered for a year, then depending on availability, larger instruments can be hired for the whole time the students attend GSSC.

Solos & Chamber Concert

Next Tuesday 29th March instrumental music students will be performing in our first GSSC Solos & Chamber Concert in the Theatrette at 6pm. Students will be performing individually or in small groups, presenting pieces of music they’ve been working on. This is a free concert and anyone is welcome to attend.

 

Rehearsals:

All Instrumental Music Program Ensembles have commenced rehearsals, with a number of them already having had performances over the past few weeks. 

 

It is an expectation that students who have instrumental music lessons are a member of at least one of the following groups:

  • Symphonic Band – Mondays 3.30-5pm
  • Mid-Level Band –    Tuesdays 3.30-5pm
  • Vocal Ensemble –   Thursday lunchtime
  • String Ensemble –   Friday 3.30-4.30pm

Beginner students will be expected to be a member of the Training Band, which will rehearse each Wednesday after school, when it commences, or Junior String Ensemble, (rehearsal time to be advised).

 

Instrumental Music Students also have the opportunity to become a member of either of the following optional bands:

  • Senior Stage Band – Monday lunchtime
  • Junior Jazz Band – Friday lunchtime

All ensembles will perform at various concerts and festivals throughout the year and I’ll keep you updated when these are coming up.
