Dear Families,

It has been an exciting fortnight at GSSC. A number of school events have taken place with the highlight being Harmony Week and the Harmony day concert in particular.  The performances of the various groups on harmony day reflect the hard work and preparation that each of the performers undertook to ensure that the concert was a success.

Listening to the music and watching the dancing was a treat to behold. The colour and excitement of the performances left all present in awe. Suzanna Sheed MP, who was present, commented on how pleased she was to be able to see the different cultures celebrating together.

The Senior Sports Day was a great success with teams from GSSC participating in a number of events and doing particularly well in Senior Boys Tennis and Volleyball and the Intermediate and Senior Girls Volleyball also excelled.

The Naplan practice test was held on the 24th March giving the students an opportunity to experience the on-line test before the real event takes place in May. It has also given us the opportunity to make sure that our network will support the testing. It was a great success.

Dharnya and Bayuna Neighbourhoods had their welcome night BBQ’s on the last two Wednesdays. Both were every well attended and gave parents and teachers the opportunity to meet in a more relaxed environment.

The Year 11 Biology camp to Queenscliff was also well attended and the students had a great time learning outside the classroom.

Students from GSSC also successfully represented the school in the Hume Region Swimming Carnival.  Results and pictures on the Hume Region Swimming page, in this Newsletter.

Next week, we are looking forward to the Solo and Chamber concert being held in the Theatrette at 6pm on Tuesday 29th March. This free event will showcase our instrumental music students performing individually and in groups.

In the next two weeks Parent Student Teacher conferences will be held on-line. Bookings are made through the Compass Portal. Dates and times of the conferences are included on the “Dates to Remember” page and also in the Curriculum and Pedagogy section as well as a ‘how to book’ attachment.

As the term rapidly comes to a close it is important that we reflect on how far we have come in such a short period of time. It is testament to the efforts of all concerned and the leadership team thanks you all for your contribution.
