2017 PRIMARY SCHOOLS PENINSULA CUP

On Wednesday August 23rd Largs Bay School participated in the inaugural Primary Schools Peninsula Cup, 9 a side football tournament. The event was put on by Ocean View College as an opportunity for year 6/7 students from peninsula schools to compete against each other and make connections with peers from other schools. There are plans for a soccer tournament in term 4.

We entered two boys’ teams and two girl’s teams and they competed against OLV and Ocean View. Every team played each other and then finals were held. The girl’s teams were awesome, with fierce tackling and improving kicking and marking skills on show all day. The B team finished in 3rd place with two wins from four games. The A team made it to the grand final where they were narrowly beaten by Ocean View College.

The boy’s teams had a mix of regular footy players and some boys who showed real school spirit to take on a new sport when we were short of players. The B team found the going tough but had one win that left them in fourth place. The A team had an excellent day going through undefeated, they had two massive wins in the group stage but were challenged by Ocean View in the grand final, with a 7 point win earning us the trophy.

Year 4/5 Rugby Clinic

On Wednesday 23rd the year 4/5’s had a great time at the rugby clinic. It was really fun to learn all the rules of rugby and get a chance to put them into practice. We played ‘tag’ games where we had to rip tags off the runner’s belts. We learnt how to play the ball and get trys. We learnt that we couldn’t pass the ball forward only backwards and we learnt how to attack and defend. Before we played some tackling games we learnt how to tackle safely.

It was really cold out there but it didn’t stop us having fun because we were running around the whole time.

It was an awesome opportunity  for us to learn about , run around and play rugby – a game we don’t usually play out in our yard.

CITY-BAY FUN RUN

With four weeks to go there is still time to participate in the City Bay Fun Run.

The City-Bay has options to run or walk 12km, 6km or 3km. Due to the large number of participants it would not be possible for teachers to supervise students during the event. We are encouraging parents/ family to join in with students. Senior students could compete with a friend or solo at their parent’s discretion. We will have designated meeting points at the start of the various distances and a common meeting point at the finish, being the Childhood Cancer Association tent. No special uniform is required but our charity partner encourages participants to wear some yellow.

To get involved head to the CITY-BAY website and register.

$20 IS ALL IT TAKES TO HELP US RAISE $500

We are also using our CITY-BAY involvement as a fundraising opportunity for the Childhood Cancer Association. The Zischke family (Jack - Reception) have a pre-school aged child with Acute Lymphoplastic Leukaemia and have received great support from the Childhood Cancer Association, especially when they moved from Darwin for treatment. The school would like to raise at least $500 for this wonderful SA based charity.

To support the Childhood Cancer Association head to our everyday hero fundraising page and donate $20.
