Stories of Impact
At St Andrews, our staff are passionate about educating to impact young lives for Christ. We love hearing stories about how God is actively at work here at the College and we would like to share with you a story of one of our Year 7 students:
Before attending Middle School, I was unsure what to expect and was worried that I wasn’t going to do well. I was struggling a little in my Maths previously and I was getting stressed about that. I was also worrying about making new friendships and was unsure what they would be like.
All these thoughts were going through my head such as, “Will I be good enough”, and “Is it going to be difficult?” I was really feeling nervous and stressed at the same time. But then I realised that God was on my side. This helped me to gain my confidence and believe in myself.
I knew that I needed someone to help me throughout this but I now know that I don’t need to fear anything because so many teachers from St Andrews have helped me along the way, such as Mr Crotty, Mrs Cloete, Mr Lee and many more that I could mention. I felt so amazing that they were there for me and guiding me through my first semester at St Andrews.
I now feel much more comfortable in doing my school work and making new friendships with everybody. My teachers and friends have made me feel much better and have encouraged me in doing my best and to try my hardest. Through this I have made many new, wonderful friends and now know people better. I know that this was what God had planned for me and I am very thankful for what He has done for me.
What a wonderful witness of God working in the lives of our students through their teachers!

Daniel Wong - Year 5
I’ve been doing robotics at lunchtime this term and I’ve finally finished what I wanted to build. A Hexalator! It’s cool and fun and I enjoyed building it. When you turn the gears the hexagon rotates and carries the balls up and around and then down the track.

Year 7 and 8 Exams
During the past two weeks, Year 7 and 8 students were writing exams in their core subjects: English, Maths, Humanities and Science. This was a completely new experience for our Year 7 students, and even for some of the Year 8 students who arrived at St Andrews at the start of this year.
We would like to congratulate our students on the way they approached their exams. Most students made excellent use of the study and revision time they had at school and at home, with results to prove the effort they had applied to their studies. They also took to heart the Study Skills session they had with Mr Lee in Term 1, and applied the skills and techniques that were presented to them. Although we realise that students are talented in different areas, and will not all achieve academically, it was gratifying to see how most students applied their best effort during the two exam weeks.
Congratulations on working hard to demonstrate how much you have learnt, Year 7 and 8! Your endeavour is greatly appreciated by your teachers.

Middle School Duolingo Championship
During Year 6, 7 and 8, students have the opportunity to be part of the Middle School Duolingo Championship. Some students apply an amazing amount of energy to this area of their French studies, and achieve a Golden Owl for their efforts. The Golden Owl is achieved by playing through all 74 skill levels. The next challenge after this, is to get all those skills on gold, and to keep them gold! Keeping skills on gold is the way Duolingo ensures that language students are continually doing their revision, in order to get more and more fluent at the language. Some students prefer to keep all skills gold behind them as they play down through the skill tree, while others try to get the Golden Owl first, and then start making skills gold. The first method is the most efficient for a student who really wants to learn the language.
Roselyn Kho, who achieved her Golden Owl in Year 6, excelled by managing to have all her skills on gold again just before the exams. Congratulations, Roselyn! Who will be the first Year 6 student to get a Golden Owl this year?
The current owners of Golden Owls are:
Samantha Ooi (8K)
Isabel Kong (8S)
Belinda Svay (8K)
Brendan Lam (8K)
Kristen Baker (8K)
Roselyn Koh (7C)
Kayle Dharmadasa (7C)
Chavella Tanubrata (7C)
Charlotte Waldron (7B)
Congratulations to all these hard-working French students.
À bientôt!
