McCristal

McCristal House
With first term well underway and the summer holidays a rapidly fading memory, I am happy to report that virtually all of the McCristal boys have settled well into an academic routine. Once again we have a term that is quite literally packed with extra-curricular activities and academic challenges.
The Year began with assemblies to recognise the academic achievers of 2014. Congratulations to all of our academic achievers listed below but particularly to Stavros (Stan) Mavroudis who was awarded overall Dux of Year 10.
Year 10 Academic Achievers
Matthew Axisa, Jordan Baird, Nathan Bryant, Daniel Campbell, Matthew Cassar, Cameron Clark, Nicholas Cunningham, Connor Johnston, Lachlan Milligan & Ryan Murley
Year 11 Academic Achievers
Lucas Anderson, Cale Berry, Corey Burl, Bryn Campbell, Claude Dabare, Artyn Giarrocco, Stan Mavroudis, Liam Merrifield & Matthew Slater
Parent Information Evening
Also in the first weeks back, we held a Parent Information Evening for families of boys just beginning at St Bede’s or just entering the senior part of the College. If you were unable to make this evening and have questions or concerns about our procedures and/or policies, please do not hesitate to contact your son’s Tutor or myself.
ACC Swimming & Athletics
The ACC Swimming Carnival was held on Friday February 20th. The team have been training regularly for nine months and our swimmers, Nicholas Cunningham, Haydn Bruce, Jacob Heatley, Tom Ferguson and Will Gallagher all swam impressively with many achieving personal best times on the night.
From swimming we quickly moved in Athletics mode with the House Athletics Carnival held last week. In relatively cool conditions we battled on bravely but only just managed to squeeze into the top four. However, the enthusiasm of the boys to participate in events despite our bleak position on the scoreboard was a real credit to them.
There were a number of other highlights on the day, once again some of the costumes were quite spectacular. The Year 12s provided an entertaining entrance with Liam Fernandez as the star performer and a choreographed routine to the music of Flash Dance.
Congratulations to Joshua Gorman who won the Year 10 award for Champion Athlete on the day and also to Vincent Kovacic was runner-up Champion Athlete in Year 11.
The McCristal leaders, Scott Nicholls, Michael Fiore and Lachlan Tedde have been fantastic so far. They, with support from the College Captain, Cameron Clark have been busy organising tutor group challenges, the House Athletics entrance as well as attending various year level and other school investiture ceremonies.
MADay
On the horizon is our Mission Action Day which will be held on Friday March 6th. Having travelled to Thailand on Outreach programs for the last two years, I can personally attest to the life-changing value our fundraising efforts can have on underprivileged and marginalised people, both here and abroad. Hopefully, the boys can challenge themselves to build on the fund-raising totals we achieved last year.
