As we move in to Week 6, it is pleasing to report the Year 8s have already embraced 2015 in a positive way. There are many opportunities for the students to involve themselves beyond the walls of the classroom. Already the boys have participated in our prestigious Hackett Mile race on the front oval, represented their House in the Junior Athletics Carnival, begun collecting sponsorship for our Mission Action Day, offered an opportunity to be involved in the College’s Debating team, voted for Class Captains to lead their Homeroom this semester, experienced a one-day Homeroom Retreat in our Function Room as well as being involved in Geography Fieldwork excursions off the school property.
The Hackett Mile is a 1500 metre race which was held at lunchtime on Tuesday, 24th February on the front oval. Four students per House were selected to run. Endurance and speed were the criteria for this event. A very fast and strong Ethan Michaelides (8.9) won the race with the student body watching and cheering him and the other runners on. Congratulations to George Grey (8.9) who came 2nd and Patrick Kennedy (8.2) who finished 3rd.
Later that week in perfect weather conditions was the Junior House Athletics Carnival. The athletes on track and field competed with 100% effort and commitment in every single race and team challenge. Congratulations once again to Ethan Michaelides (8.9) who was declared our 2015 Athletics Champion and James Eadie (8.3) his runner-up, followed by Lachlan Lamble (8.2) in an honourable 3rd position.
