Old Collegians

News

February saw a sad time for many Old Collegians with the deaths of two Brothers, Br Eric Piggot and Br Finian Allman. We extend our condolences to the Brothers retirement community and the families and relatives of both Br Eric and Br Finian.

Brother Finian’s association with the College was a significant as was his contribution to the Old Collegians Association. Prior to his funeral service at St Patrick’s, Br Finian's body lay in State in the St Bede’s College chapel. This provided many of the current and past students, staff, and friends a chance to reflect on his life and to pay their respects. At 12.30pm, the entire College Community gathered on the oval as his coffin was placed in the funeral car.

The car then proceeded around the oval as the College Community provide a Guard of Honour befitting  Brother Finian’s significant contribution to St Bede’s College over his sixty years of service. A gentle applause rung above the silence as students present and past came together to remember. 

This week we were also saddened by the passing of Monsignor Brian Walsh. Mons Brian attended St Bede’s College from 1939-1947 and was College Captain in both 1946 and 1947. He was inducted into the St Bede’s College Hall of Fame in 2012.
