Parent Helpers Assisting in School

Parents wishing to assist in anyway at school; in the classroom, on excursions, camps, etc.  must have a Working With Children Check (WWCC).  This is free to those volunteering at our school and other organisations.  Please apply now so that you are ready with your card when the opportunity arises!  The school will need to view and have on file a copy of your WWCC before you commence assisting.

Car Park Reminders

We would like to thank parents/carers for their co-operation in the school carpark.

Please note the following so that we can continue to ensure the safety of all our students and visitors.

  • While on the school grounds please use the crossings and paths provided, this models how our students should use the area and ensures everyone's safety.
  • Parents coming into the carpark to collect students - please check if there are any spare car parks. This will decrease the amount of cars waiting in the drop/off/pick up zone.  If there are places available, you may be asked to move on to one of these available spots by a car park attendant.
  • Drivers please use your indicators and obey road laws.

Science Department- Towels needed

The Science department would like to request donations of old towels. These are used in the science department in place of paper towel as they can be re-used.  Should you have any old towels that you no longer need, please drop them at Reception to be passed on.

Kinder & Junior Family Picnic

Thank you to all the families who joined us for the Kinder and Junior Family Picnic last week!  The weather was perfect, and it was lovely to take the chance to chat with you in a relaxed setting.  We hope you had a chance to meet some other families too.

Big thanks to the student Senior Leadership team who ran some great games for all the kids!

Lost Property

To avoid losing your child's belongings, please ensure you label everything that comes to school.  This includes container tops and bottoms, drink bottle and especially uniform items.

Junior School - A Lost Property tub is in the corridor outside the Junior Staff Room.

Middle & Senior School - Lost Property is located at Reception

Government Funding - Canberra Excursion

Students from our school will soon be undertaking an educational tour to Canberra. Students will be given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy.

The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education.  To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding of $30 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs.  The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.

2019 ICAS Testing Nominations

The ICAS Competition is a series of nationally administered test papers in English, Spelling, Writing, Science, Mathematics and Digital Technologies.

For nearly a decade, BHCS teachers have nominated gifted and talented students in Yrs 5-12 to sit the University of NSW ICAS Tests. In this time we have been blessed in achieving some fantastic results – including two gold medals (perfect scores).  Last year BHCS students achieved 23 Distinctions (90th percentile) and 1 High Distinction (98th percentile).

Once again this year – in addition to teacher nominations – we are opening a limited number of nominations to parents who think that their child would enjoy the challenge of sitting the tests. The nomination process involves completing a form outlining why you think your child would benefit from participation.

To access this nomination form, please email Mr Dickson – adickson@bhcs.vic.edu.au
