This week Mr Sirett shares his favorite reading topics. Luckily the holidays will provide heaps of opportunities for you to get stuck into a good story.
1. What do you read? I do a lot of reading on sports articles via local and national newspapers as well as apps such as FOX sports, AFL and Cricket Australia.
2. Do you enjoy reading about sport? Yes I love staying up to date with sports news and gaining perspectives from other journalists about sports.
3. Do you recommend reading about sport? Yes, if you are into sport it helps to understand and gain insight into the sport industry.
New books, different reading tastes and a world of adventures await....
Kart Rival by Jake Maddox. This is a sort story about Sheldon, who spends the day with his aunt at the Kart racing track. Despite Sheldon’s lack of interest in sport, he feels drawn to the combination of technical skill and adrenaline and before he knows it, he is in the driving seat. Things get personal on track when he is challenged by a rival. Does he finish first? You’ll need to read this to find out!
Museum Mysteries: The case of the Empty Crates by Steve Brezenoff. Amal Farah and her friends are excited to get a sneak peek at the new Space Museum exhibits. However, the exhibits go missing and without them, the museum cannot open. Amal and her friends are determined to solve the mystery before it’s too late and the exhibits are lost forever.
Song for a Whale by Lynne Kelly. Twelve-year-old Iris is a tech genius and loves fixing things. She is the only deaf person in her school, so people often treat her like she’s not very smart. When she learns about BLUE 55, a real whale who is unable to communicate with other whales, Iris understands how he must feel. She works on a foolproof plan to help the whale, then she wants to find BLUE 55. Iris is about to go on the biggest search of her life.
Japarrika Rises by Tiwi College Alalinguwi Jarrakarlinga. Kay-Bell is desperate to play in the AFLW, but there are so many obstacles for her to overcome. Will she escape her mean Aunty and her own self-doubt to make the team? With the help of her brother, two best friends and her spirit bird Japarrika will Kay-Bell’s derams come true?
A Different Land by Paul Jennings. This book is mysterious and strange, the forest hides feral pigs, snakes and a dark secret. You’ll need to expect the unexpected and watch your step. Christopher finds himself twelve thousand miles from home. The pub has a dirt floor and the owner is rough as guts. This is a twisting tale!
