Pacific Games

Pacific School Games

The Pacific School Games provided opportunities for around 4000 school-aged students to participate in 11 different sports at the highest level. It is the flagship event of School Sport Australia, which provides educational opportunities for Australian and international students in a range of sports.

Students aged between 10 – 19 years from at least 15 countries, including every Australian State and Territory, competed from December 3 – 9, 2017. Australian students qualify for the Games through their state or territory school sport unit pathways and international students follow their national school sporting association pathways.

Marcus Q and Amelie B both in year 5 represented South Australia in athletics. Marcus performed well making the final of the 10 year old 100m and 200m where he set personal best times. Marcus was also a member of the 10 year old medley relay team that won gold in a games record time. Amelie gave it her all but didn’t advance to the 11 year old 100m final, she was also involved in several relay teams throughout the championships.

Both students showed our school values during the 5 days of competition and in the lead up to the games. They set goals at the beginning of the year and then trained hard to achieve them. They are both members of West Lakes and Districts Little Athletics Club and have been guided to this level by club coaches.

Here’s what they had to say about their experience.

‘The Pacific School Games was a wonderful experience and we made lots of new friends with our team and other states and territory’s! It was nerve-racking going up to the start line but at the same time it was very, VERY exciting! In the end it was lots of fun and a great experience. We enjoyed it a LOT! It is something we will always remember.’  - Marcus and Amelie

Largs Bay School also had the following old scholars represent  SA: Erin M, Lakeesha P, Gabby M and James M. Congratulations to them all.
