Celebrating Book Week
The Children’s Book Council of Australia Book Week runs from Sunday 22nd August to Friday 27th August, and this year’s theme is Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds.
Staff set up displays in the Library for the Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds theme before the Covid restrictions began, and these will remain for students to enjoy when we return to school.
There are many opportunities for students to celebrate Book Week next week, even though we are all at home.
Students are invited to play Book Week Bingo, where they can select books they’ve read over the month of August on our digital bingo card and win prizes.
Students are also encouraged to test their book knowledge in our Book Week Quiz, which will open on Monday (check Compass on Monday for the link and all details). All entrants will go into a draw for prizes.
There will also be a Book Art Competition, where students can design their own original book cover OR recreate an existing book cover using photography, toys, or any other materials. Big W vouchers will be awarded for first, second, and third place.
Entry details for all competitions and links to the bingo card and quiz will be posted on Compass and in the student newsletter next Monday 23rd August.
The Costume Day and Year 7 Author Talk which were planned for next week have been postponed until Term 4, with dates to be confirmed. Students are encouraged to start planning their costume now.
Digital resources and entertainment during remote learning
The Library continues to support the EDSC community during remote learning.
Students can access two thousand different eBooks and audiobooks though Sora or the Library website (with instructions on how to borrow these here).
Not sure what to read? Check out the Library’s Books and Reading webpage with lots of suggested titles.
Students can also search the Library website for a topic to find ClickView videos. Our website has educational videos and movies just for entertainment.
The Library also provides custom-made study guides across all year levels for English, History and Geography, and cross-curriculum Research and Study skills, to help with remote learning.
